We always called them a “hand pie” because you could pick it up to eat it - used canned biscuits rolled out - my grandmother made “snips” or “snits” as some people called them (dried apples) all summer as the apples came in to preserve them - we would add a little water to the dried apples and cook them to make the filling and we always fried them on stove top in shortening - so very delicious
