A brilliant man pointing out the obvious flaws in an obviously flawed book. The sad part is you don't need to be brilliant to see those flaws yourself. Why did it take so long for people to speak out against this.

And believers like to think that "truth" is the reason Christianity has spread worldwide.
When in reality, *threats have always been a great tactic* for expansion.

Now *that's* the "truth".

Totalitarians and religious zealots do have a lot in common.
They say that Hitler was a Catholic Christian nationalist until the day he died.

A life without belief in gods is liberating. Religion lacks empirical evidence, reason, and critical examination. While religious beliefs often resist scrutiny, I am inclined to rectify past misconceptions to better myself without resistance. By discarding religious beliefs, I can readily revise misconceptions when new evidence surfaces or inconsistencies appear. This approach leads to a more efficient life and, personally, a happier, fulfilled existence.

Yes, this is a point I often make: despite the many positive aspects of the (alleged) teachings of Jesus, the threat of Hell is truly horrific and a (dare I say it) totally evil concept.

The Christian God is immune to presentism, because he “exists” in all times and forms simultaneously. All “god” concepts do. Therefore the religious person gets themselves into trouble when they try to justify their scriptures by saying “well you cannot judge the past by the moral standards of today”, because we are talking about a being that KNEW PREEMPTIVELY what todays moral standards would be, and he still delivered only contemporary knowledge.

Is Andrew Hitchens suggesting that there were no totalitarian regimes before the birth of Jesus? I would happily challenged that argument.

The Cross stands head and shoulders above every other event in human history. Mankind is of infinite value to the one who created us. We just can’t comprehend how loving God is but if Jesus is the face of God then it’s a benevolent universe and God is not someone to be frightened of but is on our side.

Psalm 30. O LORD, You pulled me up from Sheol; You spared me from descending into the pit. God spoke through the prophets of the old testament, teaching His people of descending into sheol, into the pit. The Psalm demonstrates the speaker knows to go down into the pit is wrath and judgement and to be pulled from the pit is salvation and mercy. Not easy to find things in the Bible I understand but it can happen even to the smartest of people.

As I understand the Heaven and Hell message is not that you will be happy or suffer eternally as a single entity, but rather as part of the whole. Each of us is part of eternal being, nature and as we are we contribute to it. With our actions and influences on others and nature itself we morph into it. And thus if we act wrongfully we damage it which it will defend from, effectively eradicating the singular self, therefore condemning us to "hell". And if we do it good, and it prospers because of us, it integrates us deeper, our children perpetuate our genes, behaviors and therefore we become eternal with it, we go to "heaven". So it is not an extortion or keeping in fear, that they say to you will go to hell. It is not gods punishment. It is only inevitable outcome of your actions. Just like water goes down hill, if you act maliciously, the universe will eventually eradicate you and the history will forget about you and that will be your punishment.
