Shelly always seemed like a nice lady, and it's so sad he used her in this way.

He literally exploits people for views. Remember when he tried to get to Britney Spears during her breakdown? He literally attempted to gain access to her in the hospital. The man's a leech.

That interview was a shocking mistreatment of a vulnerable person who is loved by many people. I was glad to know that many of her colleagues, fans, and admirers stood up for her.

Thank you. I'm a therapist and I appreciate your content. Phil McGraw's pseudo empathy is transparent. He clearly has no shame.

Shelly was a very good actress. It's sad to see her suffer later in life, when she gave so much to her audiences. She deserves better.

I was so shocked when he did that interview with her. His brand of "helping" is to take away the dignity of his "patients" for views, and promptly abandoning them.

The only thing he raises is his income

I've often thought that Dr. Phil is displaying narcissistic humiliation on his show. He usually displays very little empathy for his guests. He feeds off of their shame and the admiration from the crowd. What a nice spot for a covert vampire. He is such a fraud.

I saw an interview with Shelly Duvall that was fairly recently done and she was brilliant and gracious, she talked about her most recent acting work, was totally willing to talk about her film work, co-stars, directors, etc. She was amazed at all the love from her fans and was very touched. It was interesting and respectfully done.

I’m a therapist. I’m not a fan of shame based treatment. Who needs to feel worse about themselves? How is that helpful?

Oh, Ms. Duvall :(
May she find peace and health.

You hit the nail on the head. Exploiting annoying people on his show is one thing but exploiting someone with mental health issues was next level unnecessarily cruel and humiliating. I commend you for your civility, Dr. Grande, while speaking about Phil McGraw.

Not even seeing Dr. Grande's take, but seeing the actual interview... That was exploitation, plain and simple. Dr. Phil is a fiend. No respect for that guy.

I almost didn't watch this one. I decided you would handle it with kindness & sensitivity and of course you did. I have always liked Shelley Duvall. After reading how Kubrick amped up the "hysteria" on set, I was very concerned when I heard she would be on Dr Phil. I had no idea she was as in such a fragile condition. Why that man is still allowed to play a doctor on TV is beyond reason. You've hit another one out of the park 🏜️

I really like it that Dr Grande treated this case with dignity .. I care about Shelly. She brought joy to my kids when she did the childrens stories and Popeye movie. She deserves to be protected from hollywood exploitation

That INTERVIEW should never have been aired totally disrespectful to this woman

We need more people like you Dr. Grande. Kind, compassionate and intelligent. It’s refreshing and appreciated. This was a hard interview to watch, and I hope Shelly is doing well.

Oh that slight pause before "doctoral-level", absolutely savage.

Your point about a possible interview after getting appropriate treatment and care makes so much sense. It’s rather clear he positioned the interview for shock value. I do hope she knows there’s no embarrassment at what she cannot help. She is an icon and a fine actress. I wish her health and relief from pain.

Damn, i cant believe how far she has come!! I read somewhere that during the Shining, Kubrick would scream and berate her for hours at a time. She was made to cry for about 15hrs for days on end. All my love to shelley! All my love and respect to you Dr Grande 🤜🤛
