Step Turn off the water under the sink first! If you don't, when you remove that thingy, of a gusher of water will spray four feet into the air and run all over the floor. You could slip and fall in it like I did and almost knock yourself out. Very important piece of information.

Thank you. This was just the help I needed. Although most would know to turn off the water first, not all who are trying this for the first time would be aware. Always shut off water first just like shutting off the electricity before changing out a light switch, etc. Not fun if forgotten or missed.

Yea, you need to include the step of turning off the water supply BEFORE doing anything else. It isn't in your title OR in your description.

I came home to all hell having broken loose in my house, because my wife didn't know this AND she didn't know where the cutoff was.

Thanks for a great evening.

I had to replace what was mentioned here, but I also had to replace the tap seats. But these seats I guess were so old that in one store they were sold as discontinued. So 6 seats cost less than six dollars. Before getting the parts, the kitchen cold water tap was constantly dripping no matter how tight you closed the tap.

So a temporary cure was to open the cold water tap and wait for the water to get as cold as possible. That caused the cold water rubber washer to shrink a bit. Then you close the cold water tap good and tight. Next you turn on the hot water tap and let it run at top heat for a while. Over this time period, the heat slowly transfers over to the cold water tap and its washer. So the heat causes the washer to expand a bit and thus it fills in the notches in the worn out tap seat. Bingo, the annoying dripping stops, for now.

This is nicely explained, but my tap cover does not pull off after removing the screw under the cap.
Secondly with the Waltec stem, the bibb screw will not unscrew. It takes a flat screwdriver but the bibb screw will not easily loosen.

Insides dont' look like mine at all. There is a spring loaded "something" underneath all of that. Not held in place by any screw - nests down in the hold that all that goes on top of. Because I have never seen how one fits in, I dont know how to place it. It popped out with the spring pressure.

My kitchen 2 handle water faucet won't stop watering. I opened the cabinet and tried to shut off the water supply but it did not work. Got a plumber who gave up of how to fix too but took the money. Pls advise. It's a very old system.
