The iQOO 12 is the 1st Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Phone I've tested (although the Xiaomi 14 Pro came first)! - boasting 16GB RAM, 512GB Storage, Quad HD+ 144hz Display & SD8G3 - But is it a big upgrade?

Hey Chaps! What phone will you upgrade to next?
(at 5:39, the text label should be iQOO 12)

Seems that the video has a few errors
3:18 shows both phones having SD8G2 when the 12 is supposed to have SD8G33
5:39 the scores are in millions and not thousands, also the label for the iQOO is also wrong once again

Otherwise love the content Tom and keep the videos coming!

Just a heads up, the creator of Antutu posted on Reddit that the scores on iOS cant be directly compared to the scores on Android because apoarently they test differently.

I don't understand who these gaming phones are for ? If you can afford a flagship phone with top specs you can afford a better and more enjoyable device like a playstation or PC?

I'm still on an S22 Ultra so I'm on the first 8 Gen. I think I'll wait yet another year before upgrading. Battery life was bad for a while, but after nearly 2 years of updates including the recent Android 14 update, performance and battery have been solid. Battery life might even be better

The fact that the iQOO trades blows with the iPhone which costs twice as much is a clear win for the iQOO in my opinion

I'm shocked by the camera performance, they are so different like 2 different scenarios

You wrote "SDGG2" in both iQOO 12 & 12 at around 4:02 :P

Well Snapdragon has been on 4nm node for 3 generations at this point. I guess we will see a bigger jump in performance with their next chip if they finally go 3nm.

Amazed at how good the photos looked on the iQOO.... I have both the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Galaxy S23 Ultra, and while I prefer the S23 as a phone overall, the iPhone takes the better pictures. When looking at the pictures on a big, hi-res screen the Samsung may have the bolder colours, but the pictures look oversharpened and noisy while the iPhone just "gets" textures much better, the pics seem more like "real life". That oversharpening is something I did not notice on the iQOO, the pictures looked very beautifully rendered, and in the samples provided I preferred them over the iPhone pictures because of their warmer colours (the iPhone might do that too with a different colour profile though, possibly). Still.... Amazing.

I think there is an error in the name tags of the phones during comparison.

I think a more productive comparison would be a phone with an 8 gen 1 vs gen 3 or even a 888 vs gen 3 as that's ehat people would be upgrading from. It would be nice to know how different a phone feels in between upgrades befor you make the upgrade.

the S24 Ultra will be one beast to look forward to

Reminder: Total Antutu and GeekBench GPU are NOT cross platform comparable, as they test different things. The ones that kinda count as cross platform comparable are GeekBench CPU and 3DMark.

The reason Android hasn't gotten these "AAA" games and that they have less optimized games is primarily for three reasons. #1, Apple makes it very easy for developers to optimize for iOS and provides top tier dev tools. Up until just a few short years ago, Android development was primarily done through a plugin to Eclipse and didn't even have a proper IDE. #2, people with iPhones tend to spend money more liberally than people with Androids primarily because all iPhones (other than SE) tend to be rather expensive and people need money to buy them or live in a wealthy country where financing through a carrier is easy. #3, All modern iPhones are pretty powerful, whereas Android is on a very wide range of hardware from crappy bargain bin hardware to flagship really nice phones like the S23 and such. This means that devs know their game has a good chance of running really well on all phones downloading it and there isn't a "Your game sucks" because their phone is a piece of junk.

I currently have a Samsung fold 4, I don't think I can ever go back to a non-foldable phone but also there is nothing worth upgrading to right now IMO. The honor magic V2 would be my ideal choice but it's not supported in UK. The One Plus fold looks very nice but doesn't have pen support. Ideally i'd want a foldable with the honor magic v2 dimensions but with samsungs hidden selfie camera on the unfolded display and stylus support, also, a built in stylus instead of an external stylus would be awesome.

I am going to upgrade from a Samsung Note 10+ to the Samsung S24 Ultra! So I should see some serious improvements. I have been waiting for a form factor change, but now I am having problems charging my Note so it is time to bite the bullet!

I know you are afraid of lawsuits, but performance is all about Emulation, that 20% more FPS can make a game playable

wow i didn't realize the new snapdragon was that big of a jump, coming from a gen 1 google tensor this should be a huge upgrade.
