In earlier times one reason people were self sufficient was because their needs were simple. They didn't need a selection of 25 kinds of vegetables. They were thankful for a full plate. An easy prep is to simplify your desires to what you need, and be thankful for that.

Glad you and your family made it through the storm so well. You're right about God leading us through bad times.
Waited 7 yrs for a knee replacement, but while I was waiting I studied Beaver Trapping. A few months after the surgery I put a sign on my truck as my only advertizing. First client scared the pant off me, it was a 400 acre lake and I never caught a beaver before in my life. So I thought I bit off more than I could chew. But I pay a lot of attention to the details of the YouTube videos that I watched. 15 days and 16 beaver later, I knew God had given me all that I needed, and have been trapping ever since. I tan the hides and make stuff out of them and eat the meat.
Last lake of last season was a 160 acre lake, the trapper a year before got 5 beaver in 14 days. Last year i got 14 bever in 10 days. I am always cleaning up after those who are not so good. At 73, I'm afraid of quitting because who will take my place? Sure God will show me when it's time. Oh yea...i have a mechanic who takes meat to fix my truck.
So you are very right about folks pulling together. FEMA came to give me money after the Tornado but i refuse government money, nothing is free and there are always strings attached for free stuff.

Your attitude of gratitude is so vital. I'm so glad to hear your family is safe and hope you stay that way. I appreciate your videos very much. Growing up in the 70's, my mom water bath canned everything - even tomato sauce with meat in it. I can't remember anything ever going bad, so I watched your water bath canning meat very carefully and did a small batch today - one jar of beef, one of chicken thighs, and three of bratwurst (popular up here where we live :) ) We are not believers anymore, but have deep respect for your faith with many friends and family who believe. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and your positive, loving attitude! Don't wait for the government or anybody else to come and help - get going to help yourself and others!
