And when the stukas were outdated, they used 190s! Really considering buying your book, it looks really in depth and interesting :)

German air doctrine wasn't tactical it was operational. Air superiorty first. Interdiction second. The Ju 87 wasn't a CAS aircaft it was a general-purpose dive bomber.

The Germans were generally very keen on 'plunging fire'. It played an important role in blitzkrieg tactics. They knew that it is almost impossible to defend against on the battlefield. Many allied lives were lost to Stukas, mortar bombs, etc.

From what I understand, the engineered sound of the stuka dive bomber was to instill fear.

I have the stuka book by haynes. Seems most pilots were short but well built in order to be able to withstand the massive g force when bombing

Great plug for your book, now I want it lol. I always found it odd that they sent stukas over the channel, I suppose it makes sense then.

As a kid (early 50s), I remember an American film (one of those with which they bombarded us with propaganda, after having liberated us ...) in which the qualities of the Norden sight (there called "the Golden Goose") were exalted in apologetic tones, with the consequent superiority of the B17 over the Dauntless.

Navy aviation around the globe also used dive bombers

Die deutsche Luftwaffe ist stolz auf ihre Stuka. ✋🏻

I would have thought he'd talk about the U.S. Marines and U.S.Naval aviation. The Germans bought a Curtis Gulf Hawk to develop their dive bomber program.

Very Smart idea! Precision over tonnage. Completely different from american b17 flying at high altitude dropping tons of bombs.

The HS129 is my favourite Luftwaffe dive bomber / ground attack aircraft, despite its unreliable engines and limited success in operational service.

Finally, some English narration I can understand. I'm tired of AI and Americans, whose English is very garbled and incorrect, full of slang and strong accents.

The truth is not as sensational as the myths.

Their great weakness was their vulnerability to enemy fighters. Easy to shoot down. Also, not having enough highly trained pilots, later in the war.

Germany needed significantly superior long range jet airplanes before the war started… air superiority. Could not achieve air superiority over Britain >>> lost the war.

The Stuka was a sitting duck by 1941 standards.

The Germans should have used the Stukas for close air support, weather permitting. To send them off without fighter escorts was suicidal in that they were not made for dog fighting at all.

If the artillery can't support the troops (fallschirmǰägers) you need close air support. The blitzkrieg was to fast for de stationary 88" guns. The Stuka support the blitzkrieg. So, the stuka was built for C.A.S. You need aircraft to destroy battleships, ask Rudel and the Americans in the battle on Midway..
