For me, when I think of essential San Francisco landmarks, my mind goes to Chinatown. Have you ever wondered why Chinatowns around the world have such similar aesthetics, but don't look anything like China? It turns out that the "Chinatown aesthetic" was intentionally created here in San Francisco as a way to help bridge the cultural divide between the Chinese community here and the other Americans. This model was copied by other chinatowns around the world. It's such an amazing story of how San Francisco architecture has influenced the world. 99% invisible has a great podcast about it if you want to learn more.

Golden Gate Park. There must be a hundred reasons to make the list!

Love your videos. Richmond rat from birth. I worked as the night watchman on Alcatraz for 10 years and I could tell you stories...

Maybe a list of the *infamous* spots in the city. One that comes to mind is the killer piano in North Beach....

You and your videos make me hella nostalgic for my city. Raised in the Sunset over here in the 80s/90s and appreciate that neighborhood more now in 2021 than ever. The space, the ocean, the families, the diversity. 💕
Thanks for your authentic knowledge and passion of the place I’ll always call my home. Keep creating and I’ll keep watching.

One of my top 15 San Francisco attractions not included within this list (it would be somewhere in my top 5 overall) is the scene at Dolores Park on a sunny Saturday morning/afternoon. Might be the one of last vestiges of the communal San Francisco that once was, with the diverse and simpatico crowd that's usually in attendance. The billion dollar views from the benches in the upper heights of the park at 20th and Church are breathtaking and among the finest in The City. Another added plus for visiting Dolores Park: The oldest fire hydrant in San Francisco also happens to be located at the same intersection just mentioned; it's commemorated with a ceremony honoring it yearly.

Love this! As a native San Franciscan I completely agree with your choices- Love that you have the Doggy Diner Head as # 1 - as a tween & teen growing up in Cow Hollow in late 60s/ early 70s the Lombard St DD was a hangout- I can still taste their special hot dog relish.
I haven’t lived in the Bay Area for almost 25 years and the few times I’ve visited the City since leaving - it just doesn’t feel like home anymore. So Thank you so much for capturing the true San Francisco spirit in this and your other videos.

I would add: City Hall, Transbay elevated park, Dolores Park, Grace Cathedral, Grant Street gate, Ghiradelli Square, and Bob's Donuts.

Born and raised in The City - moved away in the fall of 78…but if you ask me where I’m from, I’m from SF and proud of it. And I absolutely love that you put the Doggie Diner head as #1 in your list. I lived walking distance from the one on Arguello and Geary. DD is quintessential San Francisco to me and I have nothing but good memories of it.

I'd say The Beach Chalet and Bill's Place. They're nice places to have a meal. Bill's Place on Clement Street in the Outer Richmond District is a real landmark.

I always want to take visitors to 2 places: The 16th Avenue Tiled Steps and the Legion of Honor. The Steps were created by people in the neighborhood, and you can see some of the names and dates in a few of the tiles. Also it's beautiful. Also you can see the entire City if you keep going up to Grandview Park. The Legion of Honor has all the intricate detail you like so much (and I do too), and has art exhibits besides, and a lovely view (if Karl the Fog isn't visiting).

What?! Cable cars not on this list?! Lol . I rode cable cars to school everyday. And hold a special place for me. When playing tour guide, I take them up to twin peaks, then take the cable car to ghirradelli square, which passes by lombard.. then take em to the buena vista for irish coffee. The arcade was my also my fav at the cliff house

Aquatic Pier is my personal favorite place of them all (although now it's in shambles) it's the best place in all of San Fran to get a full view of everything at night. I haven't been to S.F sadly in many many years (My dad worked in S.F when i was a kid) but The Pier was my all time favorite place..

Loved the list, Joey! Growing up in the east bay, I did about less than half of these. But recently, Ashley and I have knocked out the other half and it’s been very special. Especially loved the palace and coit tower!

Hi, Joey, I just viewed your video about SF's steepest streets, and now just also enjoyed this SF landmarks video. You're great! Glad to be based in SF, my birthplace. Thank you for the fun videos!

How can you mention Musée Mécanique and yet not include it in your top 15? It's the best! I completely agree about Mission Dolores, but show people more about why it's so wonderful. You've got to include images of the tiny graveyard.

Not sure if possible but it'd be cool to talk about the history of some of the festivals that have occurred in SF and ones that are still happening in SF (post pandemic of course) :)
