Heavy rain has caused catastrophic flooding in Europe. More than 100 people are dead and more than 1,000 are missing. CBS News reporter Anna Noyskiewicz spoke with Anne-Marie Green on CBSN AM about what factors made the flooding so devastating and why it has been so difficult to track down the people who are still missing.

This is unbelivable sad. I live here in the northern part of Germany near the danish border..and we have here now the best summertime weather, no rain, while just a few hundred kilometers away the people fighting for they're lives and homes. This is seriously bad :-((

Unaffected Northern-Germany here: The people living down there are used to regular flooding every few years. BUT: The sheer amount of rainfall this time was apocalyptic. The rainiest months are in summer; July and August. 160 mm of rain (6.5 inch) have fallen in very few hours while the long term average precipitation in July is 80 mm ( about 3.25 inch) during the whole MONTH! Additionally it's a hilly area.... and all that water meets in those tiny 'valleys'...

I can hardly watch the footage. So tragic and scary. The loss of life is horrific. To see the destruction of beautiful, historical, old world locations is so sad. Was there any warning that this was a possibility? My heart is so sad to see this. I hope that help comes quickly to salvage what can be salvaged and to rescue as many people as possible. Love and prayers from California.

This is so creepy, but exactly the night before seeing these reports, I had a dream that all these waves were coming and flooding the shores and inland. And I was running to the top of this building trying to avoid being drowned. It was so scary. And then I wake up to find all this flooding happening in Europe. I know it's probably just coincidence. But definitely weird. So sorry for those suffering from the flooding :(

I recently watched a documentary on the Johnstown flood of Pennsylvania in May 1889 which killed over 2200 people. How devastating these things are, and no way to stop this. Praying for the victims and families.
