Its shocking that there were warnings back in 1979 by scientists about climate change and instead of being heeded they were laughed at instead.

Scientists have been warning us for decades, but have largely been ignored, people keep kicking the can down the road, even denying climate change is a largely a human made issue, forgetting that a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure…

Our ground water urgently needs preserving. Depleting ground water is a serious ecological debt we cannot afford. Glad this programme is covering this.

sadly, it's too late for the 'act now' part ...many of the things described in this video about 'what will happen if we don't act now' are actually biblical prophecy! ...these things are going to happen!!!

Not everyone is a high payed scientist who has an opportunity to earn enough to purchase a large plot of land and build a home off grid . Think of all the energy it took to creat everything that affords him to live off grid . Even buggy tires uses a lot of energy to produce . Nothing magically appears . Remember that !

Resource allocations in an economy where consumption is reduced will require a massive paradigm shift.

I am a linguist by occupation, and nobody else will probably know - or care - what I'm talking about, but it doesn't bode well for a problem requiring international co-operation for any attempt at a solution when the French makers of this TV programme have refused to use a native speaker of English to translate their voiceovers, so that the English version sounds really stilted and foreign. Just like all producers of material originating in the French language that I have come across in my 30 years' professional translation experience. Oh - and we're all fucked because of climate change as well.

I think our species has an over-arching attitude we dominate nature, not the other way around. Right now it's a stalemate between our ability to continue to rebuild after fires, floods & wild storms and Nature's response of ever more energy trapped in the biosphere. At some point the scales will tip in favor of Nature & we'll fail to rebuild as much as before, accepting we're 2nd to Nature & work to right the ship.

We reach a tipping point when nothing we can do will change the disaster that is our future. As trees burn more CO2 is dumped into the atmosphere and fewer trees are there to act as carbon sinks. As the permafrost melts methane is released in huge quantities that is 10 times worse than CO2 for climate change. The oceans become less saline and ocean currents change and the sea life dies off. Red tides and rotting sea life will inundate the coasts. I am totally pessimistic about the future especially with people not changing their behavior but expecting governments to make us change. What kind of government would be necessary to make us change? Certainly not democracy as people will not vote for someone who tells them they can't use plastic bags anymore let alone drive huge gas guzzling cars. truck and SUV. We want to live as we always have with all our creature comforts and will only vote for someone who will let us do that despite repeated warnings. Autocratic governments are the only type that could possibly put measure in force to make any impact at all. I have no hope for the future but then I won't be around for much of the worst of it.

I was in Fairbanks from 81-83 and the Permafrost and snow were melting back then. The whole upper state was ice and the furthest you could drive without a snowmobile was the city of "Noth Pole, Alaska". Now you can drive hundreds of miles past all year. Back then, in the winter, there were no roads in or out of Fairbanks. We had to get enough supplies to last a few months at a time. I couldn't imagine how soggy places in Fairbanks have gotten. Houses were sliding off their foundations back then.

Oh, not to worry ! There are many of us who are not consuming or using resources due to inflation and rapidly increasing poverty. What is meat ? Something to now steal ? Yes ! Had my stored canned protein taken from my little place. Took me over a year to squirrel enough away to have minimal amount of protein for a few months. Pathetic but true. Tuna, sardines, salmon, spam, a bit of beef....peanut butter. All food costing so much. Just wondering how much weight will have to lose before am considered in starvation.
