Enterprise Sales
When working in enterprise sales, where you're working at large corporations typically with thousands of employees spread across the world, it's important to note that you may be selling into all types of different businesses. Companies that fit this category include Oracle, SalesForce, Microsoft, Facebook, and Google. Enterprise sales move at a slower pace compared to startup sales. There are more internal processes to get a deal done. You'll typically have to work in large teams to generate one sale.

Startup Sales
Startup sales typically have high velocity where you're sending lots of outreach to reach out to new clients and take many meetings to close deals. Some roles include SDR, BDR, account executive, and account manager. In startup sales at a SaaS company, you'll typically have to wear many hats and communicate with different departments even if it's not in your job description to do these activities.

Medium-Sized Companies
Medium-Sized companies are a mix between startup sales and enterprise sales. This is typically where you might have hundreds of employees working at a company that already has some sort of product-market fit.

Doing startup sales, it’s so much harder than enterprise sales (but definitely more fun and rewarding)

Hey Patrick, does Oracle and other large companies have those training programs that they eventually hire you every year? I’m looking to apply to a few roles and I was wondering if I should pick out the different roles in the company or if there’s another place where you apply for the training programs?

Hey Patrick while I was in my final year of undergrad, I got an opportunity to work as a business development rep at a startup who are doing decently well in my country and foreign markets. I sell ERP software, but we don't have our proprietary software - we are partners of SAP and UiPath and are mainly implementers. I've done better than the other 2 reps when It comes to booking meetings and discovery calls, but the sales infrastructure here is incredibly new and underdeveloped. It's a lot of work as in we have to qualify leads and the usual plus weirdly the company doesn't seem to prioritize building the sales function that strongly yet at least. I've been thinking about looking for enterprise BDR roles. I'm 21 gonna be 22 this year so do you think this makes sense for me right now? To shift to a bigger company with more structured sales departments or is it better to stick it out at the startup where I'm already familiar w the people and then think about shifting to enterprise sales maybe a year or so down the line?
Love your videos!

Awesome insight- thanks Pat! Quick q- what factors would you consider when looking for an SDR role at a SaaS company. For example I guess company size is one, pay & comp, location another… reason I ask is if I wanted to start a company in a few years, a mid market firm where you experience a mix of both startup and enterprise culture - seems like an incredible learning experience which I could take forward, rather than just choosing enterprise or startup alone ?

I like the startup to learn more entrepreneurial skills, but having a famous brand name would help when building a startup
