No disrespect to pops, but I noticed he shut up the second time to let you fly the plane. You handled everything like a pro. Great job getting on the ground safely.

Such a great pilot. I’m a dad too and loved how he stopped talking when you held your hand up. The way you handled the whole situation with all the chatter was inspiring. Big love 👊🏼

I know a lot of people are giving your dad a hard time in here, but I just want to say he seems like a really great dad.

The whole last part of the video was a perfect example of proper ADM. Politely quelling sidebar chatter, making the decision to go around to prevent having to make a potentially unsafe descent, keeping a calm demeanor, flying the airplane, and communicating with the tower when appropriate. Thank you for being an exemplary pilot!

Taking over like a boss. "Talk to the hand" moment. Perfect, great job.

Military/commercial pilot here. Your calm management of that inflight issue was commendable. That is exactly how it should be handled, calmly keep the aircraft flying first, navigate and communicate next. Only thing I would advise (sorry, former RAG instructor and LSO here) is if you're going to label this an emergency, then declare it to ATC. You own the sky then, and could have simply extended final to easily make that initial landing attempt. Who knows what that door would have done to your empennage - or to someone below - if it detached, right? Best to get the plane on terra firma asap. Sure there's paperwork later, but you'd be amazed how making that declaration immediately simplifies your situation. At my mega airline, there are specific instances where an emergency declaration is recommended, but it's always the PIC's call. Again though, your professional, calm demeanor with this incident was admirable and commendable, and you managed your crew exceptionally well.

I watched this twice to see if I was over reacting, but I wasn't. He was SOOOO panicked and she was so calm. He is not someone you want around in a stressful or crisis situation.

Wise move to go around instead of trying to force that first landing, giving yourself time to sort things out. Rule #1 - Fly the Airplane.

Pops, let your girl fly the plane. She is a natural and a very smart pilot doing the go around. Great flying Kay.

I agree! Pops I know that is your Baby girl but she is PIC and is trying to maintain the golden rule of flying the airplane so in the future you're going to have to let her do what she does and if she needs you she will ask you for it. Kay, an outstanding job in keeping cool and flying that airplane.

Excellent example of demeanor contrast, pilot calm & cool, passenger/co-pilot dramatic.
I'd fly with Kay any day.

CONGRADULATIONS on handling TWO situations !

With respect, your father needs to be briefed to remain silent during critical stages of the flight. Saw another comment saying he’s also a pilot - if that’s true he should take the opportunity to debrief, and stop playing to the cameras.
Kay, you handled the door situation calmly and professionally, bravo.

Title: EMERGENCY! The first thing she says once the door broke: it’s not an emergency 😂

Kay thinking thru, Pops all shook up. Approach was high, Pops yelling drop like a rock. Great Job Kay. 😃

You are absolutely the real deal, while your dad was in a slight nervous panic, you remained perfectly calm, focused, professional, and intentional with your perfect decision making, to do a go around because you put safety and what you felt comfortable with, instead of forcing something that could have worsen your situation, kudos to you.... definitely the Boss.... I'm scared of flying, but I would 100% feel comfortable and safe with you awesome job.
