Russia's Invasion of Ukraine

In the final years of the First World War, the Russian Empire was coming to its end. It had been devastated by revolution and finally transformed into the first Communist country in the World. In the years following the Revolution, non-Russian nations that lived under the House of Romanov sought to secure their long-lost independence. One of these was Ukrainе. From 1917 until 1921, the Ukrainians had struggled to build and secure an independent country, fighting against the new regime, against their neighbors in the west, and also among themselves.

Let's hope you don't get demonetized for "recent events" again.

Jokes aside, this is a great video. Keep up the good work!

Guys this comment is a joke about when Simple History's video about the Spanish Flu was demonetized for "recent events". And also holy cow this comment got so many likes in 7 hours.

I came here ready to comment that the video wouldn't age well, but was surprised by what this video is actually about! Well done, Simple History!

I remember when the animations were a lot more simple, it’s neat to see how much they’ve progressed

Dont forget what the Soviets did to cossacks, crimean tatar and Ukrainians during their rule. It was genocide with millions wiped out.

4:20 they were 18-20-year-old Ukrainian students at St. Volodymyr's University in Kyiv, now named after Taras Shevchenko. The youngest of them was 16 years old. Before they were shot, they sang the Ukrainian national anthem

In Finland, people have started protesting invasion of Ukraine (2022) by singing song based on poem, which our national poet Eino Leino wrote in support of Ukraine independence struggles in 1917. The song is called Terve Ukraina (eng. Hello Ukraine). This has been the poet's less known poems/songs, but has FOR CERTAIN REASON become more widerly known.

I always thought simple history's animation was awkward, but its improved so much over the years.

So basically Ukraine has a recent history of brave, freedom-loving badasses. Respect for their courage and patriotism.

I’m astonished that the time periods between both the invasion y’all are covering in this video and the invasion that’s happening now are so fecking close in years... literally almost a full century apart.

це дуже інформативно. Коли я побачив назву, я подумав, що це про нинішню війну в Україні проти Росії, будемо сподіватися, що війна не стане ядерним пеклом

This was so crazy that they remastered it 100 years later

The Russian trolls and bots in here are pretty astounding. Almost as if they haven't watched the video themselves and are only posting based on the title.

You lot sound like Southern Americans who think that the American Civil War wasn't primarily about slavery.
Sorry, but:
Ukraine is a real people with a real culture, even before 1991.
Their blue and yellow flag existed back before 1991, and during these initial wars back in the 1920's.
