Zhongli who is over 6000 years old is older than Teyvat. Though he walks among the Humans as a mortal man, he still has every single one of his powers (which he could use if he needed to) and perhaps simply felt Lumine and Aether must determine “the truth of the world”themselves. He has also mentioned both the travelers are keeping the true history of Teyvat, so he may feel they need to experience events in their own way.
