Denis Oswald, the International Olympic Committee's permanent chair of the disciplinary commission, has defended their decision to allow the Russian skater to compete in the individual competition in Beijing. Valieva was temporarily suspended after she tested positive for the banned angina drug trimetazidine on Christmas Day 2021. 'We have tried our best,'' said Oswald. 'We can not do more than what we have done.' Oswald also confirmed that Valieva's team's explanation for her positive test was 'contamination ... with a product her grandfather was taking' – believed to be heart medication.

Shame on you IOC and CAS.
Rules should be applied to every single athlete.

The ridiculous story how Valieva accidentally took her grandfather's drug is an insult to our intelligence and the integrity of the sport. Bad as it is that they drug her, it is not the worst. The worst is the complete lack of remorse, the machinations to cover it up and the arrogance of her delegation. Can you imagine US, Canada or Japan fighting with teeth and naile to make sure a doping althete is allowed to compete? They need a lesson which is over due.

Most suspicious is why does this story was kept secret for 2 months and appears suddenly now when olympics have begun

I do not understand how a beta blocker basically, can stay in the blood for two months???? I am sure that with out it she would just dance the same. This medicine to work must be taken 3 times a day, every day…… just read a medical paper. And to young people under 18 is not advised.

No one is mentioning she had been clean all the way through the Olympics. Shes tested almost daily now and always clean.

Company against Kamilla in USA is awful.

Sacrificing the many for one. Clean sport for doping. Olympics for a sham.

All hail the dystopian IOC and CCP. People refuse to host the Olymbics for ever going forward. Call out corruption.

The BBC's blatant anti Russian coverage during these games and more broadly is nothing short of appalling and extremely alarming, and I say that as a Brit.

Ignorants will keep spreading the hate instead trying to understand the decision that was made.

Recall Sergei Grinkov, who won 2 Olympics and died due to a heart attack when wearing skates at the age of 28. About a quarter of myocardial infarctions happen without specific premonitory symptoms. While therapeutic use of prohibited substances is possible - why is disease prevention forbidden?.. I don't say that the prohibition was intentionally violated - I say that the prohibition to prevent severe diseases is unethical. Each organism is unique and may need personalized aproach to disease prevention and treatment.

I actually wondered if this grandpa pills theory was just a bunch of nonsense or real, but since this official spoke about it then it's true.

I agree with Denis Oswald. Their honesty is obvious and the ruling in the best interests of everyone.

It is IRRELEVANT how this substance got into her body. Even if she were accosted and the stuff were forced into her against her will, she STILL should not be allowed to compete, as having it inside her body gives her an unfair advantage.

You didn't try to do a single thing. How much did Russia pay you. You could have suspended her and sent her back to Russia. I hope some group of skaters sue's you for millions. Disgusting!
