The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has defended its decision not to award medals in the women's singles skating at the Winter Games if Kamila Valieva finishes in the top three.

Russia's 15-year-old star has been allowed to compete after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) opted not to re-impose the provisional suspension she was handed after failing a doping test.

The IOC, however, is standing by its decision not to award medals until Valieva's failed drug test has been fully investigated.

"we're trying to buy some time until we can figure out a way to award the medal to her on technicality"

Does this mean that all the skaters in that category are being punished because she took drugs; but she is allowed to compete?

Why should other CLEAN athletes be robbed of their olympic experience to accommodate a cheater?

The medicine in her system was hardly a PED. Get over it. You're destroying the Olympics with this nonsense.

Terrible. So you are holding hostage the rest of clean competitors because a well known team who have already been punished for doping? The IOC must be ashamed of themselves. #BoycottIOC #Boycottthewinterolympics

I shouldn't be bitter that she's allowed to compete. I really shouldn't. She's only 15. But it just doesn't seem fair that she faces no consequences.

Congratulations to all the Olympic competitors from all nations who are clean!

In my opinion the IOC mishandled the entire situation. Russia was found guilty of state sponsored doping. As a penalty there sound not be any form of a Russian team allowed to compete for a period of time.

The IOC has tarnished the Olympics to the point that to me they are meaningless.

This scandal provided a procedure that young athletes could use drugs for medal.

Why would any competitor want to continue after being caught red handed CHEATING?

So basically they're saying, they know she's a drugs cheat but they're too scared to do anything.

Yes, she's only 15. But she should know better than that. Valieva, don't you feel ashamed to be part of the competition? Because I do. IOC is punishing the REAL medalists because of her. WOW.

For all her melodrama, definitely an oscar award.
Now we know she has 3 confirmed chemicals in her test sample linked to heart drugs.
A 15 year old? Took her Grandad's meds?
Ban.

I don't get it. So one athlete cheats, and less is punished? What about all the CLEAN athletes who tried their best for this Olympic game? The IOC needs to admit that to be fair for every athlete, she shouldn't have been qualified. They are messing up the Olympic games

They're letting a man compete on Penn States' women's swimming team. But a stupid heart medication is a problem?

This is outrageous - she took drugs and all the athletes will be punished?
