Lexus ES 2020 (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

Показать описание
Lexus ES competes against Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class or Volvo S90. Lexus ES is based on Toyota Avalon, while the GS is the old Toyota Aristo. The ES is FWD, and the GS is RWD. The Lexus ES is comfort-oriented, whereas the GS is more sporty.

The new Lexus ES debuted in April 2018 in Beijing. Increasingly often luxury cars debut in China, where demand is high. Cars are designed with Chinese buyers in mind. Perhaps this may not to the European buyers' tastes, but the Europeans didn't buy 27 million cars in 2018, but the Chinese did. In 2018 only around 15 million new cars were sold in Europe.

The Lexus ES is on the market for almost 30 years, but it is the first time it is offered in Europe. In its seventh generation the ES is built on the new Global Architecture - K platform. The new platform allows designers greater flexibility. The new Lexus ES features fourth generation hybrid powertrain. Lexus claims the new ES is supposed to be even more spacious, quiet, and safe, and as usual very refined.

The new ES is 6.5 cm longer, half a centimeter lower, and 4.5 cm wider, than the model it replaces. Lexus ES chief designer Yasuo Kajino describes the car looks as "provocative elegance". Over the last several years Lexus design has become quite provocative. I like it, but it may not be for the discrete, conservative buyer.

Starting price: 48 000 euro
As tested: 62 000 euro

I like the Gran Turismo-esque music. Fitting for a review of a Japanese car.

I love how you review what it IS rather than focus on how it’s not an AMG or M car. Great review as always. For those in Europe who are unaware, in North America, these will commonly last 500, 000km or more with nothing but regular oil changes, wipers, brakes.

I like the honest and frank comments you made on the Lexus ES 300H compared to other reviewers, and thanks for making up my mind for the Lexus ES300H, only I need to make the cheque book filled with cash to get one myself

I had a 2005 GS n now owned 2019 ES300h. Lexus cars has improved much over the yrs. However, GS seems to have lost its way. Instead of capitalizing on GS early successes,  Lexus has spoiled both its image n GS by being indecisive on GS future. GS should be kept as a sport saloon to compete w Mercs AMGs, Mascerati n the likes, n have more  legroom for back passengers.

Lexus GS is still sold alongside the ES in Canada. I have to admit the Lexus vehicles are incredibly well built. They seem to be bullet proof and are great for people who want to own their cars. BUUUT, as you pointed out, the Japanese designers are obsessed with gadgets and they build unnecessarily complicated systems. Their professional video cameras are crazy when it comes to software systems. Stuff you use all of the time are buried into 8 pages of menus.

Dear Toyota, most people are not geeks, in fact many are just lazy and less than swift. Just look at the iPhone. It's designed so that a complete idiot can use them. It's simple, and intuitive. Take note.

I like the ES, it's something different on the road. I was looking at those sunglasses in an Airport today, I'll get them from the affiliate link 😇

Great Review, I just don’t understand why Lexus continues to put those horrible touch trackpads for the centre computer screen. Every car journalist in the world has said how horrible and bad this system is, Eespecially when your driving at the same time. I don’t think Lexus even bothers to listen to consumers or journalists feedback. I have personally tried it in the new ES300 and it was enough to stop me from buying it, it was so frustrating to use!. Put a touch screen instead or fix up the layout menu so its easy for people to use and navigate.

You didn't mentioned that ES is slowest also on top speed. It's only 180 km/h. What do you think? Does it matter in nowadays market?
Multimedia: :D it reminded your thoughts about Citroen DS5 buttons review a few years ago. It seems that designers made because if it looks up to date it should work.

Mr Marek. It would be great for many learners if you added subtitles to the english version.🤓
Could you?

Off topic. Hopefully you have an iPhone ? When you next test a VAG car with wireless CarPlay please can you test the phone battery drain rate over say an hour if you are navigating with Apple Maps and streaming Podcasts or Music that is stored on the phone at the SAME time. Also does the phone get hot. Thanks in advance
