Tip: draw the arcs in another colour on another layer. Sometimes I mark numbers on the arc lines themselves as if they're timing charts

I've been doing this for years but thought I was "cheating" but it made my animation so much easier and faster. Thanks for the tutorial! Your work is Great, Can't wait to see more from you!

2:17 Using a rotating overhead drawing to track head rotation is pretty genius.

Beginner here with a tip I learned the hard way: When using that tracing method, do be sure to try and keep your lines clean, or at least not super sketchy where the exact shapes are not entirely clear. Trying to make an inbetween of two super rough shapes makes it very hard to determine where to place the new lines, and creates a shape that changes throughout the frames

While sketching it out helps get the feel at times, do practice at sketching with longer lines than chicken scratching the whole thing with thick brush sizes

Me, a beginner animator: THAT’S WHAT THE LIGHT TABLE DOES?!

Edit, cause I’m STILL getting sassy jokes about this. XD :

I’m using it! Yeah it seems obvious now with that name. But in my defense, I didn’t even have the NON-digital equipment for years.

This is really useful. I'm a comic book artist and I'm struggling to keep consistency in each drawing. Thanks :)

While I have been doing a version of Place-and-Trace as I animate, I didn't think of the Layout-Drawing to "map out" all the poses into a single drawing; that's so simple and effective!
Thank you so much for sharing all this advice!

I use Tv Paint for years and I never knew about that tool. You can imagine how many times I wished I could shift and trace as in ToonBoom and now you tell me it's easier? Pretty awesome! Thank you!

this advice is saving me, my animation prof preaches traditional flipping and I get why flipping is important but I always end up drawing my roughs bigger and bigger and having to scale everything down. so THANK YOU
