Kettlebell Training Is BAD For Your Joints

I’m sure you have heard this statement before so let me shed some light on this issue. Yes it’s true! Kettlebell training CAN mess you up and lead to some serious injuries. Yet the reason why, might surprise you!

ere are 4 reasons, why kettlebell training (matter of fact any type of exercise) can wreak havoc on your body:

1. Lifting weight that is too heavy

Your muscles, joints and tendons need time to adapt. If you ignore this, you’ll pay for it.

2. Your technique is off

Kettlebell training especially requires a lot of skill. If you don’t practice it, it’s a surefire way to hurt yourself.

- 3. Lifting weights competitively is self-destructive

High level athletes often get injured because they push their bodies to the max. And injuries can be aggravated if we don’t take time to heal.

- 4. There might be a critical component to continuous heavy lifting

If you lift heavy on a regular basis. You’re following a one-sided approach. Human beings are typically endurance animals. If we don’t pay attention to the way we our wired, we might do something wrong. And hurt ourselves in the long run.

Did you notice something? Almost all reasons are exclusively related to our behaviour. And not to the tool itself.

I completely agree. The keys to success in having a strong body are progressiveness and consistency!

I used to have a dodgy right knee in my mid-30's, but ever since I took up kettlebells I've never moved more effortlessly and painlessly. Turning 41 next month, but I've never felt more mobile than before after over 2 years of regular kettlebell routines - it's almost like I'm 21 again! Of course, I definitely have to thank having picked up the right techniques from the likes of you, Chandler Marchman, Mark Wildman and others. My knees still creak and ache every once in a while, but when that happens I take it as a sign to scale back on the training volume and either take it easy for the day (i.e. Stop while the tank is still half-full instead of trying to empty the tank); or split my routine into upper and lower body on alternating days to allow recuperation.

Kettlebell training allows me to press while rehabbing a bicep tendon strain.
