Bonsai leaf burn in summer - how to deal with it - Chinese Quince bonsai

We've had some very hot days recently and this Chinese Quince bonsai didn't get enough water. Subsequently the leaves burnt and these cannot be fixed. Only thing to do is defoliate.

David - Did you have to remove all of the leaves? Couldn't you have left the green leaves (especially the smaller ones) on the tree to limit the stress on the tree?

Super phosphate for flowering species helps. My climate is similar to yours here in south africa.

But you dont have to remove the leafes right? it just looks ugly
