That ending about radical youth burning out and giving into the dominant ideology is so real. But it’s mostly true for the youth who never did their due diligence, who never read theory. It’s the youth who were emotionally tied to the aesthetics of “fairness” without any underpinning of the reality involved in that. I met a “former socialist” at my work, a tired, depressed alcoholic. He’s a good dude, but very unhappy with his life. It’s the capitalist mode of production that’s caused this, forced him into 50-60 hour weeks of labor, taken him from his family, caused his body to get fat from the unhealthy lifestyle of constant work and having no energy to cook clean food. And instead of radicalizing him further, he broke and regressed.

The best way to get your kids to do chores isn't to say "go sweep the kitchen or your grounded." The best way is to make it think it was their idea, by offering them a false choice ""Do you want to sweep the kitchen or do the dishes." The answer to you doesn't really matter. either way the chores are getting done, all the options were within the realm of what you already wanted. And this way if your kid is groaning while doing the chores instead of going "Man my parents are so annoying." they go "Man I should have picked sweeping the kitchen, dishes are so much more work. My little brother always takes the easier job"

Liberal elections and false abundance of consumer choices function in a similar way to diffuse responsibility and blame
when the horrible result of the system become apparent - instead of blaming the system voters blame themselves. "I should have just voted harder. I should have voted dem/ republican next time."

You ought to take this analysis, as well as Althusser's state apparatuses, and apply it to a reading of _The Truman Show_, which illustrates how ideology works.

What is the source of that amazing “anatomical” parent and child reading together artwork? Oh, and the older I get, the more radicalized I get.
