DLSS 4.0 should create an entire game from just a single image.

I seriously doubt Nvidia unlocks the newer versions of DLSS on older cards. I mean come on, that would be pro-consumer.

"Frame hallucination" is my favorite description of what Nvidia is trying to do now.

4:14 It says a lot about Nvidia that I actually miss the days when their fancy, proprietary features were only locked behind their brand name as a whole, rather than being software locked to specific series of their own damn products

However there is a catch. It does not improve input latency. If you run natively at 100 FPS and 20 FPS, input latency between these two frame rates is very noticeable. However, if you use DLSS 3.0 to boost frame rate from 20 to 100 FPS, then when it will look smooth as 100 FPS, but input latency will give you feel of 20 FPS, resulting on very noticeable and uncomfortable input lag. This frame insertion will only make sense when game is already running at high frame rate, for example boosting FPS from 100 to 144, but at low frame rate it oddly makes experience even worse than with it.

My dog especially is the most outraged about the price tag of the 4090

DLSS 4: Instead of gameplay, NVIDIA shows you a a twitch-streamer playing the game.

HU did a review and it actually does increase input latency versus just using DLSS 2. The FPS using DLSS 3 + frame gen was higher than using just DLSS 2 but the latency was also higher. So higher fps than just DLSS 2 and also higher latency (and more artefacts too). This is not a great combo at all to be honest and i would not use it personally unless the game is a slow single player game running at 40 fps or something like that. I'd look at reducing the gfx quality first. Great tech for Flight sim but for anything else not so much atm.

I think my biggest issue is simply that if you have a 4000 series you really don't need the frames because your probably already pushing the numbers of frames your monitor can do anyways

I have a conspiracy theory: Nvidia has (or knows it will eventually) already developed DLSS to the point where you don't need top tier GPUs anymore in order to achieve ultra-graphics and high FPS in gaming. But because this could kill their products and sales, they don't reveal it and only release it to their top tier GPUs.

isn't this essentially going to manipulate FPS results once it starts getting mass adopted?

There's a relatively old driver feature where you add in extra frames to offset jitter at the expense of responsiveness. Forget the name of it now, but you can't push it very far before it starts to feel laggy.
I don't see how it's possible to guess frames without adding lag.

*on latency...*
The lower the FPS then the larger the latency. The higher the FPS the lower the latency, but also less need for DLSS v3.0. For example, you might go from 60FPS to 100FPS but have latency that is on par with gaming at 40FPS. Optimistic for the software to improve, but not sure how they get around the latency issue since you need to buffer more frames to get the data to create new ones.

The artifacts that Hardware Unboxed demonstrated in their DLSS3 deepdive was a eye opener and left me cold on DLSS3

A big issue that should have been mentioned is that this actually adds a lot of latency. Whereas you would expect higher fps = lower latency, the opposite is actually true with DLSS frame generation!

DLSS 4.0: An entire additional GPU renders all the missing pixels.

Hardware Unboxed have already tested it and while it does improve FPS visually, it adds quite a bit of input latency.

If your game was already slow, it makes input latency unbearable.

They concluded that is best used for already well performing games (100 FPS++) to hit 144 high refresh or higher

DLSS 2.0 is a game changer
DLSS 3 with frame insertion is pretty disappointing due to the horrible Input lag. It feels like enable truemotion in your TV.

The rtx on and off labels are mislabeled in the video. Just a heads up. They should be dlss on and dlss off

It's cool, but I think the use cases where I would want to use it are limited.
