Yes finally someone to talk about this subplot story, it's mostly overlooked by all sad or tragic pokemon lists, also not to mention that this story was removed from English release and translated versions (I didn't know about it or watched it until much much later as it wasn't there in release and VHS I had in my country)

Mewtwo wasnt angsty. He was rightfully pissed off at humans who tortured, abused, and used as just a tool

The late 90, early 2000s was such a great era. Dr. Fuji hurt Mewtwo in the process of grieving his daughter. His sadness and tragedy made Mewtwo despise humanity after taking his only friend away. I feel so much sympathy for Mewtwo. Mewtwo deserves genuine unconditional love.

I think this is the most beautiful yet tragic thing to ever come from the Pokémon anime. I was so excited as a teenager to discover that the prologue was included as a special feature on the Region 4 DVD release of Mewtwo Strikes Back. It's probably the most mature thing I've ever seen in the anime and it's a darned shame that they cut it from the International release of the movie.

I remember this. it came in with a DVD: Mewtwo returns as a special feature. I have the DVD right now. I got it on December 4, 2001. Maybe that’s not true but I can’t exactly remember it all I know is that I got in 2001

That was definitely one of the saddest deaths in the anime I've watched so far. Not just because of Amber, but also because of what it did to Mewtwo and her father. Her first death drove him insane and ruined his marriage (seriously, imagine that from the point of view of her mother, she lost her kid and watched her husband go insane), her second death made Mewtwo what he was.

Amber's Story is heart WRENCHING. If you don't cry after watching this, you may not be human. I've always felt this has flown under the radar for even the most hardcore Pokemon anine fans out there, glad to see it get some more exposure.

BTW, this is included on the Mewtwo Returns DVD and the dub is terrific. Just in case if that hasn't been mentioned in the comments yet.

Great video. I've had loved ones pass away before so I know how hard it can be to move on. But I also know they wouldn't want me to dwell on the past. They'd want me to live my life. And their all happy in heaven and I'll see them again when my time comes. Right now I'm gonna live my life to the fullest because if they were still here that's what they would want me to be happy living. Instead of miserable missing them. Part of me will always miss them but I also know that their always with me in my heart.
