The fact that the actual keyboard player/writer of Whiter Shade of Pale wrote in to correct just 2 chord inversions, is really a testament to the wide net cast by Ricks station. The odds are not that bad that actual original players are tuned in and will comment.

Now you have to have that guy on for an interview!

Rick, I’m a magazine editor ( also produce 100 videos a year). I have stepped on the same landmine as you did. Over time —25 years— I have learned never to reply to criticism in hot blood. I always wait a day.
Love your channel, it has renewed my interest in music and I am playing guitar everyday again now.

This sort of reminds me of something funny that was related to me during my university days. Another student I knew related an exchange between one of our professors and a student. The professor was making a literature point by referencing a painter. Someone chimed in after she spoke and corrected here, saying something like ''that's not what he intended.'' The prof was startled and asked how the student knew what he knew. He responded that his knowledge came from the fact that he was the painter's son. The prof, by the way, was a fantastic lady I loved and I just KNOW she laughed at the ''trap'' she inadvertently set for herself. It happens, Rick. Good for you for being so humble.

LOL, I feel your pain Rick... As a recording engineer, I once had the urge to assist an artist who was clearly struggling to complete the last line of his rap verse. When I cheerfully interjected with, "how about, (blah, blah, blah...)" The music immediately stopped, the room fell silent and DJ Muggs (Cypress Hill) cocked his head and casually offered, "Why don't you use that lyric on your album, bro?" and I could have crawled under a rock and died.

I love that you posted this. Admitting our mistakes is one of the most freeing things we can do

Your humility is refreshing! A rarity, indeed! (Great story, too!)

Rick, it's testament to the fact that you are so well respected and followed that this happened. Your channel appeals to both the musician and the fan in equal measure I feel.

Whiter Shade of Pale is my all time fave. I'm 66 and I've told everyone I know that I want it played at my funeral, and then rock it out with Sammy Hagar and Neil Schon's Version at the end❤

Watching your videos has given me a much deeper understanding of how complex and difficult music often is. Now when I see bands live and I think that they aren't in time with each other or some notes seem to be missing or not quite accurate, it comes to mind just how difficult it is to make music. I appreciate it a lot more knowing how much the musicians have worked to get to the point where they can get close in front of an audience. Thank you, RB.

Its called humility, and you owned it. This is why you are so respected and loved the world over. And now, guess what, you can all laugh about it.

Everyone eats humble pie in their life, accepting and owning it is another thing.

That is so incredible that he contacted you and had watched your video ! I have a mountain bike YouTube channel in the exact same thing happened to me over a wheel. the person had made a comment on something I said about lacing up a wheel and basically I replied in a similar way and it turned out this guy had way way more experience with it than me!

I think Matthew should be your next interview. Great story!

Never let that embarrassment eat you up brother, we often just take everthing as the truth, till one day we find out we were wrong, we went forward without checking the facts. I been there myself. Matthew Fisher was very kind, and understanding in his correction. Well done owning the mistake. You have a perfect Ear, I'm sure now after that small insight you have since gone back and seen it for yourself, and without a doubt; have said: "there it is". "Life is only understood looking backwards, but must be lived forward". Your Honesty shows you're not scare to face humility. I have even more respect for you now. Take care, stay strong and true to yourself.

So cool. Someone in these comments suggested having him on for an interview, I agree!! If he’s willing how cool would that be!

That story has made my day. No, actually, my whole year. What are the chances? "100% because it happened". In my younger day, I worked in a supermarket and was loudly reminiscing with a salesfloor colleague about TV shows from our childhood. We both agreed that one particular show (for legal reasons, it shall remain nameless) was a bit of a dud and proceeded to criticise the show's presenter in no uncertain terms. After about a minute of slagging the guy off, I heard a voice behind me ask "can you show me where the pasta is, please?" It was the poor guy we'd just badmouthed. My colleague took him to the relevant aisle in what turned out to be the longest walk of his entire life.
