Flight Gear Audio Cable - Record Cockpit Audio on Your iPhone or GoPro

Creating videos of your aviation adventures is a great way to share your experiences with others, but don’t forget the cockpit audio. The Flight Gear Audio Input Cable makes it easy to record intercom activity, no matter what device you use. This unique cable is the only one with two 3.5mm output plugs: one for phones and one for digital cameras like GoPros. You can use one or both at the same time—perfect for backup in case one camera dies.

Fly along with Sporty's Doug Ranly and see how this unique cable works.

Built-in audio filtration:
The audio coming out of an intercom manufactured in 1972 can be pretty rough. The Flight Gear Audio Input Cables have built-in filtration circuits to help cut down on noise and distortion. The result is a cleaner audio file and more compelling videos.

TRS camera plug:
Use this end to plug into cameras and audio recording devices. Don’t have a 3.5mm plug on your camera? Most popular action cameras, including GoPro, have an optional accessory (sold separately) that allows you to plug into external microphone inputs. This 3.5mm TRS plug is also known as a 3-pole plug.

TRRS phone plug:
The second plug on the Flight Gear Audio Input Cable is for phones. Many modern smartphones have amazing cameras, so pilots can use their phone for recording their flight—after all, it’s always available. Most 3.5mm jacks on these phones will provide a stereo audio output with a mono audio mic input (left, right, ground, mic). The TRRS plug, also known as a 4-pole plug, provides a single channel microphone input. Phones without a 3.5mm jack will require an adapter (sold separately).

Does the cable to use for the iPhone does the six cable have to have 3 lines? I tried to use one with only 2 lines to my handheld transmitter and it wasn’t working, it was actually keeping my handheld on transmitter like is if it was transmitting

Now we need the adapter for the iPhone 15 pro max with the USB C plug. Please tell us when it is available. The “Steady Shot” feature in the video of the 15 is incredible .

One Nflightcam audio adapter for the GOPRO 7 seems to work Ok. But the second adapter recently purchased is over modulated and very distracting and not worth the audio recording. The output is from a PMA 450B to the CP audio jack where I am picking up the source in the cabin. Any suggestions? (defective adapter going to the GOPRO)? GOPRO source setting is set to standard mic input.

This doesn’t not record the radio communication from ATC. Any idea what could I be missing?

Do you need an external mic for the iPhone to avoid cockpit noise and if so what do you recommend?

I’m considering the DJI mic for my cockpit audio recording. Does it plug into the receiver? Or do you plug it into one of the microphones and it wirelessly transmits to the receiver? Thank you for your time!

I bought the Media Mod for the GoPro so I could record audio without leaving the door open. Guess that would be connector you show in the video to connect.

Does this work for both the PIC and passenger audio or would there need to be two separate adapters? Also, can the excess noise through the iPhone switch be canceled out?

Just so I understand correctly your using the DJI mic plugged in the same way as the iPhone?
