This is how to paint your car yourself. This is BASF paint being blended across a hood and fender. The clear being sprayed second is refered to a "wetbed", it allows the blend coat to land on a wet surface making for a better blend.

The 3M Sungun (flashlight) contains a broader spectrum of light similar to being outside. It helps identify area's that don't have enough paint coverage. They are color corrected bulbs in the booth but they still don't contain a comparible spectrum, also its not as bright in the booth as it may look in the video.

Wow. You make it look easy. This is one of the best videos i have seen to watch on Auto Body painting that clearly explains what is going on in the process. Thanks.for taking the time to post it.

Great video, I'm a professional automotive painter myself. It's funny how some people are quick to criticise, but I don't see them taking the time to upload videos themselves! :)

@MrJreed1000

Depends on the color, brand/type of paint, size of car. Typically anywhere from 1/2 gallon to a gallon and a half. Average car with BASF paint probably about 3/4 gallon at most.

Once you paint the car, how long do you wait to put the clear coat on?

Nice job. im planning to repaint my car back the same color. Do i have to sand it down or is it better to just wet sand it.

Lacquer dries quickly and usually sanding between coats is possible, urethane requires no sanding between coats unless you want to. Urethane clear especially can be coated after flashing off. The clear actually chemically bonds with the previous coat.

Thank you Jimmo This is very interesting and i have learned or am learning watching your video i did my wing mirrors last year and they came out perfect metallic silver, However in slight areas it looked patchy and i knew it was my base coat and it annoyed me until i looked at your suggestion to do a drop coat which makes sense now ;P thank you keep up the great work!

Couple questions. I use a Sata RP as well with the 1.3 tip. What tip was in yours in this video and how many turns out was the fluid knob? Also, how many turns out for the base coat? Reduction ratio? How wet should my basecoat be immediately after shooting? should it be dry, tacky, or wet? I have been having serious issues with mottling light metallics.

I painted 30 years ago and need to get up to speed, , i notice your gun has a cartridge type pot ontop, , yes its a gravity gun, , but i never saw one like this before, ,
i saw you painted with a huge fan and lots of air pressure.
what size setup were you using, , 1.3, , 1.5..etc..
I saw you apply what i thought was a final coat of raw thinners to maybe wet it up a little, , am i correct.
Is it basf basecoat called baslec..
i want to see more from you can you show more video.
Thanks mate good job

@woodyv00

It was scuffed using a gray scotchbrite pad with a sanding paste (wet).

All your videos are very good. You got very good hand for spraying. I look forward to seeing more videos. Whatever other people saying, does not matter how you get to the end the whole result matters. Different people, different techniques. Some can't understand that

Do you find that keeping the gun 12-18" off the panel and applying 2 consecutive drop coats allows it to flow better, or is it that you are just clearing the sides of the paint booth with the overspray?

depends on the gun, usually around 25-30 psi
