Here’s how to fix a Kohler toilet that runs all the time. If your Kohler toilet keeps drawing water and the water valve, never shuts off, this video will show you how to fix a toilet that is running all the time. On a newer Kohler toilets, there is a QR code inside of the toilet tank that you can scan to get specific instructions on your model of toilet. The water valve on a Kohler toilet is designed to be opened up and cleaned and serviced, so you can turn it to open it up and take it apart, and while you are looking at it, you can clean any particles out of it, and make sure that the rubber isn’t damaged, and then put it back together, and most likely your toilet will not have a problem With excessive running after it flushes. But if your Kohler toilet still runs all the time after you have cleaned out the valve, you can buy a replacement valve and install it on top of the water intake mechanism. In this video, I show you how to clean or repair the water valve on your Kohler toilet to make sure that the water shuts off after flushing.

Your video was terrific. My problem was that it was not filling after a flush . . After removing the rubber seal, cleaning and reassembling it filled perfectly. Thank you for the excellent video.

On my Kohler toilets there's a diagram on the underside of the tank lid. It shows the part numbers.

I was about to purchase the entire fill valve when I came across this video! It’s fixed, THANKS! Didn’t see much dirt in the seal but I guess just taking it appart and rinsing was enough to get it working again.

I have a brand new Kholer Highline Arc. I had a plumber come out and replace the shut-off valve to the toilet because it was leaking; ever since he came out, my toilet has been running nonstop. I saw this plumber mess with the screw on the float. I wasn't quite sure why and I got distracted and didn't ask him why. I had to call that plumbing company out again because I couldn't figure out why it was constantly running. He came out and said the tube from the float to the overflow was pinched. He pulled it off, cleaned it out, cleaned the disc (mind you, this toilet is less than a week old and didn't need to be cleaned), and put it back together. Flushed it several times and it wasn't running. I watched him do this and it did stop running. So of course, my luck, I flushed it a couple hours after he left and it's running again and I just can't figure it out. So now he has to come back out again and I have to keep taking time off of work so they can fix it and it's just really bothering me. I tried messing with the float and it doesn't matter where it's at, it just runs non stop.

Very helpful video! I had to order the entire valve assembly off Amazon. Only $19.95. Just used the very top piece of the assembly like shown in the video. Worked perfectly. Toilet is no longer running. No plumber needed is always a great thing.

Thanks for taking the time to post this! I first tried just the seal, but had to replace the entire cap/head just like the video.

THANK YOU!! I'm so annoyed this was all it took but at the same time relieved because I don't have to replace the whole thing. For literal MONTHS I've been turning the valve on and off to fill the tank in-between flushings because I couldn't figure out the problem 😭

I replaced seal and it doesn’t work. Seal just doesn’t seem to be the same. Even at full level. It’s doesn’t doesn’t stop.

Is it possible to buy just that portion of the valve kit or do I have to buy the whole thing?

Tiny bits of gravel get inside there and clog up the blue seal and it will run constantly. Look closely when you open up, the blue seal inside needs to be perfectly clean.

A lot of the comments seem to be about "seal fix not working", you might be trying to fix a symptom and not the cause.
If the gasket at the bottom of the tanking is leaking, the valve might be correctly trying to fill the tank because the gasket is leaking away water into the bowl constantly. So in that case you'd need to fix the O ring gasket down at the bottom of the tank. One way to diagnose that is do you hear constant dripping inside the toilet? Also, if you pull up slightly on the valve arm (do not push too hard) does the valve stop the water from running? If that's a 'yes' then the seal valve is working correctly.

Mine ran for a month without me noticing (young and uneducated about these kinds of things) resulting in a $600 water bill. Figured out, with the help of a buddy that this is my issue, thank you for showing how to fix it!

Thank you! My valve wasn't seating properly and I could see that the top assembly was clearly meant to be removable... but rotating to release it wasn't obvious. Mine had a 1mm-ish chunk of sediment stuck in the valve, but no damage. Quick, easy, and free fix.
