OG Leon vs Remake Leon - Resident Evil 4 Comparison

A comparison between Original Leon from Resident Evil 4 (2005) and Remake Leon (or REon as I call him) from Resident Evil 4 Remake (2023). In the remake Leon's characters was turned a few notched toward the realism as the eventsx of Racoon City were traumatic for him, and he barely resembles the Old school Leon who was an iconic action hero with sharp one-liners.

What I like about the original "I got gum" line from the original is that it was a subtle call back as well as some character growth from original resident evil 2 where leon started with the lighter in his inventory. The reason he had it (according to the manual) is that he's a smoker. Gum is sometimes used as a substitute for cigarettes for smokers trying to kick the habit. So him only having gum was a subtle way of informing the player that leon stopped smoking as well as being a fun and cheesy line.

Man old Leon is just a giga chad. Paul Mercier truly made Leon comes to life.

My favorite part about OG Leon is the first time he meets Saddler, he starts talking to him like he's been his arch nemesis for years. He's so perfect in that role, he turns the whole game into something magical.

New Leon sounds like a more realistic take on canonical Leon who is depressed and has survivor’s guilt who still brings the corn, but OG Leon just kills me with the old lines.
