How to measure for a barn door.

Question for you. I have a wide opening (80”) but no clearance on the sides, so I’ve got to do a bypass installation. No big deal. But my question for you is about the height: from surface to top of trip is 87” but the tallest door I can find for sale is 84”. The only way this will work is if I install the track literally on the top trim. Would that look like shit? Does the track have to be above the trim? If I install it above the trim, there will be a huge gap from the bottom of the door to the carpet. Thanks in advance

Hi. I measured my door from outer edge of trim to outer edge of trim. It measures 37” . I want to buy a barn door but i have choices of
36”
Or
38”
Or
42”
Please i need your help. ?? What size should i order ?
