How to Measure for Replacement Windows

Don't understand what some people are bitching about calling the video sloppy etc. Over thinking is the problem I believe. Video seemed pretty straight forward to me.

It also depends on if you're removing the old sashes and jamb liners from the inside - where you're removing the stop mould, or from the outside by cutting off the parting bead of the old window. If you take this dimension shown and you try to install the windows from the inside, the window will not fit into the opening because once the sill is set, the window will not rotate into the opening. It will hit at the top.
You need to cut back from the exact height by 3/8 - 1/2" of an inch to have enough clearance for the window to rotate into place. This is if you're replacing a WOOD window.

These dimensions would work if you're planning on using a multi-tool, or a sawsall to cut off the exterior parting bead. But most professional window installers still prefer to cut back the overall width about 1/4" to 3/8", and the height about 1/4" to 1/2".

This was terrible. I couldnt see where he was measuring the top from. I could barely see where he measured the bottom from but it did look like the sill.

Why does no one show how to measure for a new construction window? I don't want cheap vinyl replacements.

Simple way tear the damn trim off and measure the frame of the f’n window. Then go buy that size. Put an air bag on the bottom and one side. Shim the bitch square and screw the window into place. Through some insulation in the gaps around the window. Then caulk the outside of the turd. Finally replace the trim. Before all this go out and buy the tools you’ll need. Do not attempt without the proper tools. You’re welcome.
