Loudoun Heights to Old Forge Road.

🏃🏽 52 miles, 8600’+ Up, 8700’+ Down

Today is the day I’ve been training for! My first 50+ mile day stretched from the VA/WV border, across MD, the Mason-Dixon Line, and into Pennsylvania. Goodbye to the South, y’all!
Overall, the hike wasn’t terribly strenuous, but as with any challenge- the rain and thunderstorms came.
Crossing the Shenandoah into WV in the dark, and then crossing the Potomac River, I was first welcomed into MD with a 3-mile (legit flat) section, where I made up some good time, as the hum of the world began to amplify. I climbed up toward Weverton Cliffs, and kicked myself for miles for not hiking the extra .2 to witness the sunrise over the River. My next glorious welcome to Maryland was @curlupndye and @goldiehikes who stuffed me full of pasta, electrolytes, and fruit to fuel my mileage. Onward to views and confederate monuments into Boonesboro, the trail led me right next to the Washington Monument, up to Annapolis Rocks, Black Rock Cliffs, High Rock Ledges, Pen Mar Park, and across the Mason-Dixon Line into PA. After my 16 hour race to PA, I decided to continue to push farther into Waynesboro, Pennsylvania as dark fell. Before long, the hike became less fun, as my headlamp reflected glowing eyeballs of countless presumed deer, so I aimed for Old Forge Road, and called it a day... A 19-hour day. 😉
