Why The One Piece Remake Is Needed!

One Piece is an incredibly long series with over 1100 chapters and 1100 anime episodes. We recently got the announcement of 'The One Piece'. A complete anime remake of One Piece from the ground up, adapting the manga from the very beginning of the story.

The Original and current running One Piece anime has its share of controversies from it's massive episode count to its horrible pacing. In this video, I break down why The One Piece remake has so much potential and why it's so needed.

the wano arc made me realize how poorly paced it was, despite being an action fest, a lot of time was wasted on needless recaps and flashbacks. So the only thing a remake needs to do is fix the pacing, while not rushing over important details and backstories. It is certainly a tough task but let's hope for the best.

The pacing only really becomes an issue around Ennies Lobby and even then it’s not bad until Fishman Island.

This has been my dream for the past 10 years. One Piece manga is God-tier but let's be honest the anime sucks ass. Bad. Pre timeskip anime is ok at best. It's nice to watch and doesn't have as bad pacing issues but come on the quality is shit. Post timeskip on the otherhand is impossible to watch. I don't know a single person who has completed the dressrosa saga in the anime. People love to praise Wano but all the epileptic lightshows and michael bay effects are not same as good quality. And the pacing hasn't been improving that much either. BUT FINALLY my dream has come true. My favourite series made by a proper animation studio. I'm so fucking excited what a time to be a one piece fan 🔥🔥🔥

The most obvious oversight is that the original episodes were shot 4:3, this was't mentioned. This causes problems because of the extensive use of flashbacks as a narrative device. This was fixed by using footage for flashbacks from the film adaptations of the various arc.

I don't like that your pacing analysis of the current anime is strictly a ratio of episodes to the manga. It's just not that simple. Some added footage in the anime is actally better than the manga. As a very simple example I'll state that there is no detailing of Nami getting bitten by the Kestia flea on Little Garden in the manga. This was detailed in anime with actual acknowledgement of the bite by Zoro asking what's bothering Nami. And there are continuity problems with this scene in manga, as well. Sanji shows up after the fight with the Alabasta Log Pose in episode 77 and charactistically notices that Nami's shirt is gone having been burnt off from the destruction of Mr. 3's sculpture. Nami gets mad at his observation and Sanji offers his coat as peace offering to calm her down. In the manga, Sanji just shows in one panel wearing the coat and in the next panel he's explaining the Den Den Mushi call from Mr. 0 with Nami inexplicably now wearing the coat. These details provide some foreshadowing to the reasons for the crew and Vivi to make the wise decision to reroute the ship to Drum Island rather than continue following their course to Alabasta. Not only is the foreshadowing added, it fixes the discontinuity in the manga.

Another great scene in the anime is "The Walk." It's an epic scene in the anime that gives even more weight after Nami asks Luffy to help her with Arlong. In the manga Luffy just walks up to Usopp, Zoro and Sanji and tells them "Let's Go" and simultaneously the three replay "Right." Then after a single panel of Nami seeing this happen, there is a short cut to Johnny and Yosaku stopping the village mob from entering Arlong Park and a single panel within of Arlong and his crew discussing Zoro. A single panel results back to the villagers before Luffy just punches down the door as we flip the page. The Walk is not cannon, but it's a monumental anime moment with an epic soundtrack with beating drums and brass flourishes that becomes a staple in the anime as fanfare to all things that will forever become an epic event in the story. This is 1-1/2 minutes of filler that added a solid scene which dramatically betters the pacing of the storytelling of the One Piece tale. For many, this is the moment most people became fully invested into One Piece. Pacing isn't just speeding up the story, it's about adding moments of tension to give the story some breathing room between the cannonical scenes. It isn't just Nami asking for help. It's how immediate and committed Luffy and his crew are to correcting situations that affect fulfilling their dreams.

Where pacing becomes an issue is much later than what is being suggested by what is currently marketed as included within The One Piece. This is currently only acknowledged to be the East Blue saga. And there is almost no filler in the animation of the East Blue episodes. And really the only significant time filler in the East Blue arc happens as they are exiting Loguetown and Usopp gets his goggles while Sanji wins the Elephant Tuna in a contest instead of just buying it. Other than that only the biggest filler issue is continuity with Zoro being prematurely able to cut steel on a couple of scenes which cannonically he can't do until Alabasta. So really, at this point from what has been announced is that pacing will be addressed with The One Piece. It will happen if The One Piece gets a green light by Netflix to continue into later sagas. Things like repeated stares before fight blows and unnecessary reiterations of flashbacks which do severely affect the story pacing will only be addressed then.

Issues that will be fixed hopefully with The One Piece will be the removal of the extended recap flashbacks that start out each episode. Some of it is fine, as it does keep the continuity of the presence that there is an actual Narrator. But we don't need a ubiquitous highlight of film roll from immediate previous episode that is a significant portion of each episode.

The removal of non-cannon filler arcs should be done. But it's not like all of the filler arcs were bad. Many of cannon cover stories were give some depth by the animation. This had a significant impact on world building within the story. As well, the G-8 arc is a brilliant segway after Skypiea which allows the Straw Hats acting more as a singular unit to show off some of the things they brought back, as well as adding reasoning for their pursuit of getting the Going Merry repaired after all the damage it incurred from events in both Drum Island and Skypiea. A lot of the newer members are given some of their first moment to shine. Usopp's attachment to the Merry is further explored and Robin is given a chance to show off her abilities to use her devil fruit powers to infiltrate resulting in the eventual creation of Condoriano "crew mate" by the imprisoned straw hats. It's brilliant shennanigans after more shennanigans. It's not cannon material, but G-8 is not bad pacing.

need soul in there, if you focus on quick pacing without souls, the story is dead like alabasta movie remake. the previous has credits for its souls and its build up although some is not in the manga but it helps to get the hype of the the series.

ohhhh brother how did I know lol. im just so tired of the pacing argument. I feel like 1000 other YouTube creators have the same arguments you have in the video. I thought I was gonna get a different perspective from your video based on the title. but I guess not. don't creators such as yourself research the platform to make sure they don't oversaturate YouTube with the same content. there's like hundreds of people making this same video.
