if you can't afford film just shoot digital and use Vuh's presets 😏

There’s probably other factors that you overlooked. You said you’ve been shooting film for 6 years. And you originally started paying $50 for a pack compared to the 60 right now. That’s a 20% increase. On average the US dollar inflates 1.5%. 1.5x6=9. So dollar inflation alone led to a 9% increase. Now there’s 11% leftover. One thing to consider is just this year alone. Gas prices, grocery prices, & mostly everything has inflated. So I assume that, in conjunction to what you stated led to the increase. You can’t expect to pay the same amount of money for things in a fiat system. When the dollar keeps depreciating.

I have been shooting film for 20+ years. Film was cheap back then. And when digital came, the price started creeping up and never stopped to this day. This price increase is just another creep up. No surprise there.I just keep using film as long as I can afford. There is just no alternative to film.

As a man who lives in New York gas prices make my wallet cry, thankfully I’m not a film photographer cause if I was I’d be chilling outside CVS with a cardboard sign saying “need money for film and gas” and then all the way at the bottom in small letters “weed” 😭😂

Kodak is ramping up their production and using the increase in price to expand their ability to make film. They have to rebuild the whole thing because they dismantled their film production in like 2008. It sucks now but in 2 years we won’t have to worry about paying scalper prices for our film.

Mannn this is the main reason I haven’t gotten into film photography yet, it’s just so expensive 😕📷

There are a lot of factors. Supply and demand, trying to be eco friendly and using an alternative chemical. But yeah film is expensive, gotta be a lot more selective on what I shoot.

Film is going to go up: period. Despite the demand and popularity, film manufacturers got film photographers where they want them. I nearly died the end of last year when I saw how much I put out for film (with developing and scanning).

People are really going to have to be mindful when using film. Film has been a creative diversion and rest from digital. However, I can't keep throwing good money after bad. All we can do is hope for the best that prices will come down, or at least stabilize.

Buy it in China. There is a huge community of film photographers here. 120 film cost around 80 - 100 rmb to get finished product. Do the math for your currency and get some bulk order.

People are complaining it's not possible to even buy certain film stocks...that's why kodak plan to build second factory line to meet the demand. That's why the price increase. When they bankrupted they dismantled all the factory lines apart from one that is used now and what it's capable of producing is not enough anymore when film photography rose from ashes again. Let's buy film and support the only company in the market as far as color film is concerned..

i found a few unused rolls in my suitcase but honestly the price of printing is putting me off.. will save them for a special occasion. Also film is hard to get in Europe right now, especially in London due to delivery/shipping problems the film sections are empty!! (cant even get hold of Kodak gold lol)

business major here! companies / businesses will spike prices short term because their predicted amount of demand for a product, goes up meaning they have to control their supply a little better by spiking prices so that production can stay at a normal pace! so hopefully the spike is bc of this and will only short term or is just adjusting for inflation :)

I’m going to stick with Walgreens ultra max for awhile seems to be the cheaper option right now and a decent film stock.🤷🏻‍♂️
