I recently got into film photography. I then quickly got out of it. Over the course of just 6 rolls of film, and I ended up spending over £100 (factoring into account the cost of the film and getting it developed). This doesn't even include the cost of the used film cameras I bought, which also racked up quite a cost. I'm literally a part-time bicycle courier, I was really stupid to get into this hobby but I got hooked on it. But it's a totally unsustainable hobby when digital cameras are basically superior in almost every conceivable way and cheaper too. Unless you're a professional photographer or have more money than sense I see no real reason to keep film alive.

I had been using film for street photography for a while but it just costs too much to justify it anymore. I like the look and feel of using film cameras but don't miss their limitations, cost and the mechanical issues that can arise from using old equipment. Ultimately the image is what counts, not what gear or medium is used to capture it.

Film=noise. More noise, more film. I still have a nostalgia over my old iPhone 5 which was so easy to simulate film: it took natural single-exposed 8mp jpegs with nice noise. All I had to do is slap a filter and done, digifilm

You made great points. I recently picked up an Olympus XA to dabble in film again (the last time I shot film was in the 90's with a Nikon point n shoot). And you're right, I don't think processing film will be practical or affordable on a regular basis for a hobbyist like me. I also shoot with Sony a6400 (LOVE my camera) and I have a collection of vintage lenses (Konica, Minolta) that I got cheap on Ebay and they pair great with a6400 and all my images have a vintage film vibe! That's the way to go -- vintage lenses on mirrorless.

Hello from Japan!
I pulled out my a6400 that I had not been using after watching your YouTube!
I need to know how to set up my camera to take film look photos.

Shooting film, then scanning it into a digital image, then editing it, is kinda nuts.

I would go as far as to say photography* is dying, which is more scary. Have you seen what AI is capable of?😢
