so I just got a RX 580, now I need some freeware like FFmpeg that can use it fully. Nvidia got with FFmpeg because all the freeware transcoders and video editores use it. AMD should help the FFmpeg developers. AMD needs to be aware that we don't use GPU cards just for games, we do lots of video stuff like transcoding, video editing with special effects. A lot of the free stuff uses FFmpeg as the engine to their software so that is your starting point! when people are students, or just starting a hobby they start with the free stuff to see if they want to do it, then they go on to buy more advance software. If the free stuff is only supporting Nvidia, because Nvidia went and helped the FFmpeg programers get GPU acceleration. Then that is bad for AMD, people think AMD is no good because free software companies aren't using it.You get the free software on board and then you get demand built up, and then the pro programs will jump in and start supporting AMD.

AMD i have seen peaple talk about an old driver that had partiel suport for vp9 on the rx 500 and 400 series, but now it's gone, and it's ben 4 years now so where is the full vp9 codec suport?

This is what I like to hear. I want to make the switch from nVidia back to AMD but was concerned about losing Shadowplay. I needed some reassurance that my in-game recordings will look great.

kind of surprised that there so many people didn't aware that AMD has their own 'Shadowplay' for quite some time..it's Raptr or Play.tv(too bad so many clients here and there) in AMD Gaming Evolved app..been using it for about a year and half now, of coz there are few bugs in the making but this HEVC is quite an 'evolved'..from H.264 to H.265!
