#Scales, #Soloing, #Theory

Understanding the major diatonic (7-note) scale is the key to understanding the rest of music theory.

Something to remember: no matter what key you're in, the intervals between the notes on the major diatonic scale are ALWAYS the same.

Which means, you can play the same scale shapes with different keys... you just have to move them up or down the fretboard.

Hi Steve,
Sometimes I take for granted the fact that you can learn anything on YouTube. But it is totally not to be taken for granted, especially with you. I applause your videos and thank you for giving me all this knowledge for free. It has taken my guitar playing to a whole new level

You explain it so beautifully- I’ve been involved in music all my life- musical parents, I was singing before I was talking- and I’ve never seen it explained so simply. This is a massive help, I understand what diatonic means now! Thank you.

Plenty of lightbulb moments for me on this video. Can’t believe it’s taken me all these years to take the time to learn this. Thanks for making this so clear and concise Steve.

Hi Steve, excellent teaching this is so so helpful. I don't understand one thing though: what is the difference between the G Major scale and the diatonic scale? They sound just alike and have the same pattern ( W - W - H - W - W -W - H), only are they played on different positions.
