This theme is mostly used for "aftermath" dialogues and areas, for lack of better descriptors. There's a particularly powerful sequence where you're walking through the remains of a battlefield where the battle went poorly, for example.

Not deliberately being contrarian but I was convinced you'd love this as soon as I saw the title! From memory this plays a few times during some exposition cutscenes and in my mind at least, is associated with grief (I don't think this is a spoiler?). The narrative of FFX is a lot about death even by FF standards, and a lot of the themes in it focus on coping with grief. A lot of the game is very wistful and this is perhaps the most wistful sound in it. It's a phenomenal game that holds up relatively well in gameplay terms but exceptionally well as a story.

As a clarinet player, I'm 99% sure that instrument is a bass clarinet. It has the same timbre. I'm glad you loved this one; it cuts straight to the melancholic/dreamlike heart of FFX.

Nice chords, spacey. It feels like floating in a void of nothingness, this is very relaxing and I could fall asleep to this in a good way. The sax (I think) was a nice surprise, this song is so relaxing it made me sleepy and audibly yawn lol. I like this, very calming. I'll have to keep this in mind when I want to de-stress.

Glad you enjoyed the track, it's one of my favourites from FFX. You're right when you say the song makes you want to take a breath, especially given when it plays, which is right after a bit of a couple heavy scenes in a row. I like to listen to this when I'm stressed sometimes, I find it helps quite a bit, glad it could do the same for you when you needed it.

This song always made me feel so sad... Despite how serene it is. Or perhaps not sad, but melancholy? Which is basically how the entirety of this game felt for me...

I only got to experience FFX last year, but I knew almost nothing about it other than a few of the main character names, and some common jokes about it's mood and tone. Bought it on sale and went in with a completely fresh reaction to it's story.

Never did I know, it'd strike me so hard...😅

Needless to say, it's fantastic to see more FFX track reactions because of this. This OST is super addicting, and has so many great tracks that remain memorable throughout!
