It will always amaze me how this band did so much in their first 3 albums. Add to that, 3 albums in 3 years is impressive for any band.

The snare that Lars used was actually a 6.5x14 Ludwig Black Beauty that was loaned to him by Rick Allen from Def Leppard.

Great video! Just as a side note: at the time, Metallica were still basically using the same guitars as on “Ride The Lightning”, meaning there were no ESPs yet. James’ Explorer was still a Gibson, most likely with stock pick ups. The 500t pick ups that are still found on most current day explorers are fairly aggressive ones, featuring a ceramic magnet. Same goes with Kirk’s guitars: he was probably using his old Flying Vs and maybe his Jackson RR1 laced with EMGs (EMG 81 on the bridge position). He was Metallica’s first EMG adopter while James’ was still using his Explorer pretty much stock.
Cheers!

Noone knows why life does what it does especially to certain people doing similar things dozens of times but suffer no tragedies. Cliff, unfortunately like so many like him who died from mind-blowing means, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Randy Rhodes, Dimebag Darryl as a few examples. Many artist have done many times what each one of the aforementioned have untimely died from. Years of touring, flying and doing wild things and yet certain people are sheltered from any dangers while others eventually succumb to its unbreakable grasp. I'm just grateful that these artists left a lifetime of original awe inspiring body of work to listen and enjoy for eternity. Long live the Metal Titans 🤟🏼♥️

I have always felt that this was the last album where Kirk Hammett was allowed to stretch his legs musically. Ever since it seems that his playing is more restrained, and its hard to tell if that its Hetfield and Ulrich throttling him or if he just isn't as inspired as he used to be.

Thrash had a golden era Master of Puppets by Metallica, Among the Living by Anthrax, Slayer Reign in Hell and Megadeths Peace sells... but who's buying. Those Four bands and inpaticular those four albums defined Thrash Metal and made it a force to be recond with. I know I was there smoking cigerettes in the boys room sophmore year in high school argueing with my friends as to which one was the best.

A Kerry King V is the most expensive Amazon guitar? I would pay for a Hetfield or Holt ESP any day.

I always thought that the band hit their peak with Puppets and then losing Cliff it was a broad decent downwards from there.. there were great moments to come like Justice and then the Black album but the core Puppets band were gone forever RIP Cliff 🌅
