GET MORE SPIN:

The following comes from a mission statement that appeared in the inaugural issue of SPIN. It means as much to this current staff as it did to the original writers and editors.

A confession: SPIN is imperfect. It’s rough-edged, restless, insatiably curious. A little aggressive, a little cocky. Youthfully uncompromising, but maturely flexible. Romantic — definitely! Irreverent — sure! Unpredictable — yes. Very alive.

Everyone who's ever enjoyed guitar and forgotten riffs understands that final nod intimately.

He wasnt happy because he remembered the song. He was happy because of how perfectly he hit that pinch harmonic

Muscle memory is no joke. I once met an old man who use to play country music in the 50s and 60s, but hadn't played in over 20 years. He wasn't fully able to play the notes anymore (mostly because his finger strength wasn't what it use to be), but it was obvious he knew what he was doing. He would sit in his garage, and I'd bring my acoustic over from time to time, and after about 3 months he was jamming again rather decently. RIP to Bill, the old musician that use to live a few doors down from my house.

The thing with that type of muscle memory is when you find the notes on the frets and whatnot, it comes back to you Instantly

Even hit the pinch harmonic, like riding a bike. Good job dad!

The dad nod. One of the most pure and wholesome emotional responses there is.

There are two standard gestures every dad in the world instinctively knows. Slapping something you just put together as a sign of "this ain't going nowhere", and a nod with a slight smile signifying "still got it".

And in that moment, in his mind's eye, his luscious locks returned to grace the metal gods once more
