Absolutely they are doing a great job keeping poor people poor 😢. THIS is one reason America's TRUE history should be taught. A structure is only as strong as its foundation. Just sad.

I would accept the forgiveness and start saving up for the tax. $500 vs $10000.

When they mention the states that won't tax loan forgiveness. They don't mention my state where there is no state income tax. There are 9 states where there is no state income tax. Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. How can any state charge with no income tax, impose taxes on debt forgiveness? Aside from that, maybe just leave and take up residence in another state to avoid this impending legislation. I don't see why that wouldn't work. Not to mention students may be mobile living in different states at different times during and after their college careers and there after. Ridiculous is exactly correct. Maybe government spending should be cut instead.

Handouts for students pisses me off. Unfair for most Americans. A fair solution would be to discontinue interest on student loans and let payments pay 100% principal for ALL student loans. Since grants are paid for from the interest paid by students, college grants should be discontinued since no interest is paid. It is the interest on debt that causes debt to grow. They just suspended interest for the last 2 years, so make that permanent.
