A huge difference also is that as a field EMT you are generally taking care of one person at a time if you're busy it's cause you have call after call. You're still focused on one scene at a time. But ER Tech you can be bouncing back and forth overloaded with multiple patients at one time

I learned how to do fiberglass casts, phlebotomy, catheter insertions, peg tube care, trach care, ostomy care, I learned how to prep sterile fields, Ive watched many cool things happening in the ER as a tech.

Great video man! Currently in EMT school and I’m starting my hospital shifts before NREMT in December, so freaking excited!

My hospital hires both Medics, and Nursing assistant, for the ER. the only difference is that the nursing assistant can’t do IVs. Their a great help. Down here is SoFlo, you may get your CNA license or EMT (depends on the hospital system) and be hired as a ER Tech. The ER is really pushing for candidates to have their Medic license. Otherwise it’s great experience especially if your in a big trauma center.

Hey funny to see this video! You 100% had a HUGE impact on me passing my NREMT, and I am now about to start working on an ER Tech on the 16th this month!

I worked for a big Private Ambulance company in the states. Wasn’t for me. I felt like we were more of a taxi than anything. Never went on one call where we packaged. Every scene we went to the Fire Department already took care of them. We were just transport and I wanted hands on not just taking vitals and transporting and asking them the same question the FD already asked them.

Another great option is ICU, lots of what was said about ER applies to ICU as well. I fell like you can learn tons in ICU. My favorite place in the hospital. And even if you do, you gotta know what's going on and what your role is in a emergency or code. Plus your managing ten or more patients for hours vs one patient. Time management is key here. Gotta try to stay ahead because things go south quick at times.

I spent the last 15 years of my CT Tech career working at Level 1 trauma centers. We were staffed with every level of healthcare, ER Tech, EMT, Paramedic, RN, PA, Residents and Attendings. ED Techs are the most valuable people in the ED. They are the 'vein finders', the chest pumpers, the patient transporter, traction applier, and imaging facilitator just to name a few. I have more respect for the skills of the Tech than most other staff types. Sadly, for all they do, they are grossly underpaid. I've been retired for 8 years now but when I was working, the typical ED Tech was paid less than $15 an hour. My techs would come in and tell me when there was a story about some fast food joint saying they deserved $15 an hour. They knew it would get me on my soap box. 😄

the only downside of being an ER tech is that you not allowed to do patient assessment only RN in California
