Which is better? It’s best to have both. Earned college credits and an earned college degree are “assets” that can be leveraged to a person’s career.

PhD here and business owner; hands down experience. We PhD’s often have to prove to industry employers we have experience through transferable skills obtained during the PhD Program. Now the business owner hat, still experience when I hire. The pudding is in can you do the job. Some professionals, where licenses are required, may have trouble with the exceptions of employment based off experience (which do usually exist, keep in mind if you don’t ask you don’t get), but overall experience will win, currently, when it comes to jobs. New grads aren’t trusted like they used to be by businesses. This is not hidden and a concern being troubleshoot by analysts. I’ll say it again while nothing wrong with a degree, experience takes priority, at least right now.

EXPERIENCE!!! A person with an degree but zero degree wouldn't have an shot, but it'll vary depending on the degree/job.

Him not having an engineering degree can hold him back if he ever decided to leave for another company. Not having one severely limits his options, regardless of his skills.

They'd rather a kid to train up fresh out of uni who costs half as much. I see it every day. A time served capable engineer could cost £40, 000 where as a person fresh out of uni would start on £24, 000.
