My degrees are chemistry and biology. Kind of need those to be a chemist. Not so much if I want to be in a cube farm. Context matters

“You don’t need a degree”
*everyone liked that*
“But you’re going to have to work hard at success either way”
*everyone disliked that*

I think that he’s talking about a degree in business, as entrepreneurs and business students are his general audience.

Yeah, I want to be a medical doctor. I'm just waiting on them to stop requiring degrees.

You wouldn't need a college degree if your family has a multimillion dollar buisness.

"Some big companies in the world no longer require college degrees"
Meanwhile in philippines:
*Hiring for an entry level job with basic job responsibilities
-need to have 4 yr college degree
-needs to have 20 years of working experience
-able to spit fire
-have the ability to split body into 5 (minimum)

A degree is needed at most points because not everyone wants to be an entrepreneur. Plus it’s not even for the sake of the degree but for the sake of expanding your knowledge in that field

My son just graduated college and got the big first job. He’s a Physicist and I can’t imagine any company not requiring scientists to go to college

Motivational speakers talk out of their butt 90% of the time, they talk a lot but don’t say much.

I couldn’t get my internship without pursuing a degree. It helped my employer know that I can meet deadlines, do projects, pick up knowledge quickly, and collaborate well. These are things college taught me… otherwise my internship gave me industry experience, but they would’ve never given me a shot if I didn’t have some sort of official certified backing to prove basic requirements.

Hey Gary, the private jet you fly around in wasn't designed/engineered by an "influencer". Just so you know.

I don't think he's telling people not to go to college. I think what he was saying is, what works for others doesn't always work for you and what works for you doesn't always work for others. If you think college would get you further then good for you, if it won't you could always adjust and change paths.

I love that he completely avoided the question
You go to university for the opportunity not a piece of paper
You go to find like minded people and the elites
And, even where the degrees aren't required, they are still valued quite high

Tried getting a job as an accountant and they said I need an accounting degree so I’m stuck working at a supermarket

Can't remember who said this "Successful people don't make the right decisions, they make their decisions right."
I think it's a great shift in perception.

The context here is everything. Gary isn't hundred percent wrong. The field I'm studying in.... Knowledge and hands on experience are way more valuable than a guy with a degree. And our professors at college themselves agree college won't benifit as much as just knowing how to work. Mass communication works on how much a guy can output rather than having a degree.

Well it’s true that everyone getting degrees does devalue them somewhat, however if you get a STEM degree from a prestigious institution then it is extremely valuable. Statically speaking having a degree increases your wage.
