I had a saltwater tank as a kid (my dad cared for it) and I had two clownfish and some kind of friendly shrimp. We got some kind of new fish at one point and he gave the other two fish Ich, and attacked and killed the shrimp. All the fish and the shrimp died. It’s ok now, I’m older and over it, but as a kid I was devastated😂

What’s interesting is, the study of fish is called ichthyology

Watching fish keeping channels reminds me of the aquariums we had in the 80s/90s. If you were lucky, you had one book on keeping fish and hoped for the best. We had no idea what ‘white spot’ was, but when it appeared we got this medicine from the pet shop that turned the water blue. I don’t think I’m THAT old at 37, but man, I forget how you just had no internet to learn this stuff. It was the library, word of mouth, or guess work. My dad thought he was such a pro coz he’d learnt to float the bags of fish for a bit to get the right temperature 😂

I wish I knew you the few times growing up when we got a new fish that introduced ich to our tank! It was always so sad and devastated our fish! The fish store guys would always just give us methane blue and a prayer. 😢🙏

Me and my son keep 5 goldies and followed your videos. Thanks a lot for your wonderful thoughts for caring goldies. Watching at UAE.

if you’ve had fish in a tank or pond, no matter who you are, you’ve experienced ick. I’ve pulled hook worms out of pond fish. It was cool.

Great clip! Sidenote: if anything in tank other than goldfish do research before using salt. Not great for things like snails/plants/scaleless fish.

amazing advice!!!! this works for most tropical fish too. my Glo Fish had ICH and I turned the heat up, added a lot of aquarium salt and added API super ICH cure but I'm not sure the ice cure is safe for goldfish, maybe just for tropical fish?
anyways, great video as always Luke, you're amazing!!

I lost 3 goldfish to ich, but then again this was years ago when I didnt know any better, I overmedicated *and* the tank was way too small and only had 1 filter and pretty shit substrate, no live plants, and I was feeding them food that wasnt good for them. Buried them in my backyard, I cried yall I felt so bad like I had failed them or something but I'm so glad I know better now

I don’t own goldfish but I do have a discus fish tank. My discuses also got ick seasonally (in the winter) or from new fishes and I treated them with this same treatment and it usually worked (the success rate will be higher if you found out the ick sooner and treated the fish as soon as possible) but sometimes they unluckily pass away.

High temp speeds up the life cycle, it doesn’t make it harder for the protozoan to replicate. It speeds up the replication so we can treat the free swimming phase.

Nice 👍I always thought that high temperature speeds up the life cycle of parasites, so it's easier for us to eliminate it faster. I could be wrong, luckily for all these years of fish keeping I only had to deal with the ich once.

I don’t know why I keep watching goldfish videos. I have never had a goldfish, and I am not looking to get one right now, but I just keep watching these videos.

I remember that one time I was vibing with my fish and I got too ahead of my self and I took it out of the water and kissed it and even twirled it around until I realized it was out of the water and ended up surviving but I felt really bad at the end so I gave it extra fish food it didn’t even eat it but I still feel bad till this day ( I was 6 btw)

When I was about ten we bought a fish tank from PetSmart we picked out thee baby catfish a snail an eel and two koi I didn't realize until just this moment that the catfish all had ich we noticed the spots but we were told that it was normal and just their coloration I thought that was suspicious at the time but looking back it definitely wasn't coloration we got them from a big chain pet store which was our first mistake they also told that the eel could totally live with the fish she ate all of my catfish then eventually my kois got sick and died we have no clue why but now I have a guess the eel and the snail managed to live for years though not really sure how

Moral of the story never buy from a big chain pet store
