Hand Cut Dovetails, a different approach!

Rob Cosman walks you thru a different way of transferring tails to pins. Bit of a twist on the way Ernest Joyce taught it in his book "The Encyclopaedia of Furniture Making". Just may be the most accurate method there is.

Thank you for the shorter version... I actually appreciate the detail of the longer version as well! Thanks for posting.

The fact you just eyeballed that is fascinating!! I'm an artist but I love woodworking too. I'm so slow. Maybe I should just relax and trust my abilities.

Excellent tutorial! Love how you just spend through this. Shows how fast someone can be if they just practice. Practice does make perfect. Glad I came across this oldie but goodie! Thanks Rob!

Thank you for the pointers, I made my first successful dovetail tail joints. This was the most straightforward and easy method I have come across by far. Thanks again

Nice. I like the "choke up on the chisel" hint. Those ARE really nice really sharp tools you are using, too.

With the first word you spoke in that video it was clear: This craftsman will really show you how it's done, and you did! Thank you.

Rob, thank you so much for posting this tutorial. It has sparked me back into life and back out into the shed. I probably haven't cut a dovetail joint since being at school over 50 years ago. I now have a speaker extension cabinet almost finished with dovetail joints I am really amazed with, such a great way to do them. I have an old new Record #6 plane I've set up as close as I can to your method and all my chisels are now nice and sharp! It is such a pleasure to watch a real craftsman at work. You are inspirational, Thank you

Another great technique Rob. Using the saw blade material as a spacer, nice.

Would have never thought of that! A lot simpler than trying to remember to cut on the line or leave the line. Thanks!

I found your channel through Stumpy Nubs. I subscribed right after watching. I like how clear and straight forward your instructions were. As a Veteran, I also appreciate the time and care Stumpy told us about what you do for wounded Warriors. I wasn't wounded in war but I have physical limitations as I need a right hip replacement. I look forward to many more hours of learning from your videos. Thank you sir for sharing your expertise, talent, time, and caring for Veterans as well as so many others who are benefiting from your channel. Rodney
