Great video, I am catching on by making mistake first. This will help others bypass that step. I focus so much now on the base lines because as you say "the angle of the tails are not important, as long as they are strait". And once the base line has been violated, it is game over. Just for fun, I recommend that people try free handing dove tails without guide lines, it is quite liberating.

Great advice. I'm new to woodwork and have just started a channel where I have just finished my first bow tie inlay project all by hand. Its going to take a while but I'll get better with time.

Nice work! I must give this a go at some point, haven’t done dovetails since woodworking at school... and that was a long time ago!

Very well documented and explained, love the look of the final product mate ( doesn't look like it was done freehand)

great first part, Sean. Just one question on how you manage the pins part. Do you cut them straight from the saw (as it could seems in this video) or leave a space and pair it with the chisels? Really looking forward to the next parts!!

thanks Sean the biggest mistake i use to make is not cutting tails square and undercutting only for a gap to appear during clean up. have you any experience in fitting rail hinges or some call them stay hinges to boxes by hand i cant find a video on whole of you tube about them . i am sure it is something in you repertoire . looking forward to 2&3

Why the chamfer? IK don`t think anybody else does that.

The thing that spooks me about dovetails is that you are cutting probably 20 different faces and you only need to get one wrong and the whole joint looks cr*p. Lot of pressure!!! Also, you guys make the sawing look so easy - I find it so difficult to get an absolutely true line.
