The Song dynasty was actually incredibly based; advanced economic and financial system, near-18th century industrial power and were developing canons. They were crushed by the Khan, but def not an "uncanny" era before hand.

Fun fact:The amount of grain per capita in the Tang Dynasty(618 AD~907 AD) was the highest among all dynasties in China, and this record was even maintained until 1982.

Yuan dynasty really wasn't a great time for China, the government literally debated for 12 years whether to or not to treat A FLOOD THAT IS KILLING MILLIONS OF PEOPLE. The population was low and the economy was a mess, the Mongols had 15 emperors in 80 years (murder monke who each reigned for less than 6 years on average), the only thing it had going was the Marco Polo clout.
