As an American, I have to say that the Ottoman Empire in my opinion is criminally underrated, and one of my favorite empires in history. They lasted over 600 years and have made numerous remarkable achievements up until their fall from power, and also obviously had a reputation for sacking their European neighbors quite often, which I still think to this day is quite legendary.

Kinda sad to think that the fall of the Ottoman Empire led to a lot of the problems in the middle east, since they were doing a pretty good job at keeping religious extremism from getting out of hand. Granted, they mostly fell to their own failures of self governance in the late 1800s but still
