Grow up people, the only people who aren't bothered by Scarlett Johansson being cast are the Japanese, like I'm pretty sure at some point they'll make their own Ghost in the Shell movie with a Japanese actor. It's a smart move bringing in Johansson as she's the one of the most bankable and best female actors that is around at the moment and is probably the way to go if they want to make it into a franchise, it's not like they've mocked the Asian appearance and done a Mickey Rooney with her character, they're just changing it for the general audience that can speak English. Just think that it could be a lot worse and they ended up casting Jennifer Lawrence or something.

Why do people think the character is Asian in the original anime? It's a cyborg ffs. Not to mention the fact that almost all anime characters in general share more physical similarities with the average white person than an Asian...

As someone who watched Ghost in The Shell, I've got no problem with it for now. I need to see more to really judge it. First, the character is not Asian nor is she human. Second, Scarlett Johansson is a good actress or capable one. You might not like it, but if the main character isn't the right ethnicity or race does not equal a bad film. We have film of Americans playing a Brits. And Brits and Australian playing American. We have Scarface, one of the most iconic movie, where Al Pacino, who is Italian, playing a Cuban.

If I were a director, I would cast whomever I thought would do the role best, not who the fans think *looks* best in it.

You're making a movie, not a cosplay, the look comes second to performance and if I got the chance to work with someone like Johansson then I would easily take it as she's a good actress.
