Save yourself from the scrolling down on the comments. Here is the summary on this comment section in an hour since trailer was released. People complaining about how the plot is cliche, how the trailer spoiled the whole movie, and how Scarlett Johansson exudes too many emotions for her to play Major Kusanagi. Conclusion you either watch the film or you don't you decide, don't let others opinions shape your decisions to do things that you do or don't want to do. If you hate the trailer don't watch it, if you love the trailer watch it, if your friend hates it but you want to watch it and they shame you for your opinion then screw them and go watch the movie alone, life is about learning from good and bad experiences .

After playing through Cyberpunk 2077 and watching this trailer, I couldn't help myself but notice how visually similar these two worlds look.

Am I the only one wondering WHY we're going through the whole "who am I" quandary with the Major?
For one thing, the first Ghost in the Shell animated movie left questions about her identity and humanity as nice open questions for the viewers to ponder.
The Stand Alone Complex series pretty much solidified her as just a good old Japanese woman who had extensive "cyberization" procedures, nothing too mindblowing.

Why are the writers of the movie seemingly making Motoko Kusanagi into this "tortured soul without identity" type? It's been done before. She's the Major, not Robocop.

let's play sci-fi action bingo shall we:

"I have been watching you" - check
"He wasn't human" - check
"I will find him and I will kill him" - check
"We saved you" - check
"Everything they told you was a lie" - check
"What are you" - check
"What do you want from me" - check
"They did not save your life, they stole it" - check
"I order you to terminate" - check
"They created me, but they can not control me" - check and BINGO

Judging by the words spoken in this trailer, the film will be
easily exchangeable. I'm not a big fan of the original Anime but
at least it was pretty unique.

Idk about this man... it's a perfect interpretation to the anime on a visual aspect, but spiritually it seems to be going somewhere else. Sure there's the reconizable shots from the O.M. but that could end up being confusing because they seem to be going with a different narrative and plot. And then there's the issue with Kusanagi's character arc. I understand for cinema/Hollywood sake they want to give her an origins story but she doesn't need one. Part of her attraction was her mistique, her unexplained mythos. You ruin a good portion of her when you try to explain it. But who knows maybe it'll be handled well. maybe not. We'll see.

Ghost In The Shell movie is surprisingly really good, .! aesthetically, visual-wise, the cinematography, the effects, the 'universe', concept, story, music, artwork, and even the deep philosophy from the anime, .! this might probably become one of the most unique movie/film in this year (2017)..! definitely will watch for the second time, .!

Looks nice, but plot seems cliched, way deviated from the original.

The same people who would complain about whitewashing are the same people who would defend raceswaps like Sarah in TLOU HBO and that chick in the new live action Little Mermaid. Cry about it. They chose the actress they thought fit the role best.

This is not Ghost in the Shell. This is Japanese-inspired Robocop.

Hollywood fucked it up again.

Whoa, they really mauled the story. Section 9 is a villainous organization a lá Hydra-subverted Shield who stages accidents and recruits the victims as their cyborg pawns? Let me guess, Kuze is a former agent who found out the truth and went on a revenge spree? That's a big stepdown from his original who was a mere puppet of an intelligence officer orchestrating a refugee crisis to turn into a civil war, but then hijacked the plan and became the revolutionary leader of the refugees.

But we can't have all that brainy stuff in our summer blockbustah, can we? Let's go with a cookie-cutter "good guys are really the bad guys" plot, and remove all that talky crap like Kuze discussing Marxist dialectic with Aramaki's hobo brother. I mean, what would GitS be if you burdened it with philosophy?

SEQUEL PLS! lets not pretend that if the japanese made a cyborg, they wouldn't design it to look like a white girl. Cos they 100% would. So much of jpop culture is based around western aesthetics, ffs many of them even get surgery on their eyes to look more western. I'm asian and i loved it, also had no problem with the role going to a caucasian actress and actor (Kuze). I also would love to see an authentic japanese live action version, if they have the rights.

Lol, I had no idea this movie even existed until today!!!
Where the f*** was I in 2017!?!?
It looks badass. And I honestly can't believe how much she looks like the anime character.

I'm guessing it got all the bad attention because it didn't go woke??
Because I'm sure if it was woke, the critics would have been circle jerking all over it.
Looks amazing and I'm eager to watch it.

Commenters:

*sees 2 minutes of footage, passes negative judgment on entire movie and every nuance of stars' performances

*remarks how the movie isn't 100% faithful to the source material, forgetting the movie is an ADAPTATION, not a shot-for-shot remake

*criticizes alleged "whitewashing" of Major by casting Scarlett Johansson, even though the character was never specifically portrayed as Asian

Yeah...seems legit. Just another day for Youtube commenters.

It's getting increasingly harder to hope for an actual GITS movie.
This is sounding more and more like a washed out and rinsed dumbed down version of an original masterpiece.
All in the name of mediocrity, because mediocrity is what brings in the masses.

This film was a great example of doing a live action version right! It’s a shame reviews caused it to be looked down on when in fact it’s a great film
